‘The pragmatic purpose of diplomatic networks and development programs is to build alliances that can be relied on in times of trouble.’

A really dangerous approach to defense and the need for a robust ‘prevention is better than cure’ strategy.
Industrialized economies are increasingly turning their backs on aid and diplomacy to build up their armies.

But analysts fear that hostile and unreliable states like Russia, China and Turkey will step in to fill the gap.

Yesterday, the European Parliament’s center-right EPP relied on the support of far-right groups to approve cuts to green rules.

It ushers in a different era for the Parliament, in which political pragmatism triumphs over principle.

You can’t reboot the planet if you crash it
What Gates is putting forward aren’t legitimate arguments that can be made in good faith. They are shopworn fossil fuel industry talking points.

Climate was a key topic at today's EUCO summit, with some countries fearful the EU’s green targets could leash their economies.

Pedro Sánchez disagrees. Speaking to reporters after the talks, the Spanish PM came out in defense of the green rules.

A: it wasn’t anybody’s job.

I talked to the heads of all the agencies involved in the investigation, about why the biggest pollution event in Irish history fell between the cracks.
