Y'days post: Populism and Economic Prosperity mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2025/10/popu...
We would expect populist governments to damage the economy. The evidence suggests that they do so in a big way. But we know from Brexit that the media typically nullifies the impact of this evidence on voters.

Two survivors — George Takei and Jo Anne Naka — recall living in the horse stables at the Santa Anita racetrack before they were moved to their incarceration camps.

Read THE AGE OF INCARCERATION to learn more about Japanese American incarceration from some of the last survivors of it.
Japanese American Incarceration Survivors Remember What the US Forgot
During WWII, President Roosevelt invoked the Alien Enemies Act and incarcerated 125,000 Japanese Americans. Eighty years later, some of the camps’ last survivors reflect on lives scarred by injustice.

In early June, I attended the Early Career Workshop on Law & Courts at Nuffield College (Oxford), run by Nuffield, U. of Gothenburg, and UCL.

I received awesome, constructive feedback from a room full of comparative L&C scholars. I’d highly recommend it. They also give great tours, enjoy some pics

This outcome is doubly tragic: first, the Western Apache will experience fundamental devastation that escapes words. I wish this case had been framed differently and, ultimately, that the Court were more open to bringing Native lands under the auspices of Native governments.

A great thread that may help explain why the three liberals didn't join with Gorsuch and Thomas.

This case was NOT litigated by the tribe itself, but by the Becket Fund—a conservative group that regularly argues for Christian supremacy and clearly saw this dispute as a vehicle for its broader aims.
The Supreme Court denied cert today in a complicated and controversial case involving federal Indian law, Apache Stronghold. This case, brought by a nonprofit and not a Native nation, focused closely on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (rights) over the treaty violations (power).

Yeah this is one of the great bullshit arguments. Amongst trans folks, we talk all the time about being misgendered and letting it slide, the idea that people are being fired is simply made up propaganda.
I heard Stephen A. Smith tell CNN yesterday that "people are afraid they're going to lose their job for messing up a pronoun" and it really amazes me how many people don't realize they are awash in intentional propaganda designed to make them afraid of the wrong things and angry at the wrong people
Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.
