My Maine Gov Janet Mills has a spine that could topple a linebacker. Meanwhile Sen Susan Collins has been making jellyfish look resolute for far too long. This is Mills’s last term. Collins is up for re-election in Nov. Maine’s outgrown her. Mills might just be the one to finally boot Collins.
Will Mills’ confrontation with Trump be a prologue for a US Senate campaign?
The governor's exchange with President Trump over transgender rights last week elevated her national profile, with one political scientist saying it could push her to run for U.S. Senate in 2026.

Those dystopian books we read in school are looking less like fiction and more like a blueprint.

No wonder they’re being banned—they want to keep us in the dark.

No one elected Elon Musk.

As Donald Trump allows Musk to access people’s personal information and shut down government funding, Republicans in Washington will also own the consequences.

We must do everything in our power to push back and protect people from harm.

Trump doesn't care if the economy crashes and communities suffer. His goal is to force you and your family to accept a lower standard of living while he and his friends get richer. Cutting support for law enforcement, schools, small businesses and firefighters is chaos by design.
President Trump’s order freezing trillions of dollars in federal grants and loans sent officials at schools, hospitals, nonprofit organizations and many others into a frantic scramble to understand the extent of the directive. Here's what to know.
Order to pause federal spending creates deep uncertainty for schools, nonprofits and companies.
