I've made two starter packs with speculative fiction publications - magazines and podcasts - on Bluesky. I hope they make it easier for people to find & follow a whole bunch of great spec-fic venues. I'll keep adding as I go.

Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate.

(They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase).

1) Go to your account page
2) Hit cancel
3) Change sub back.

Now that's a horrifying thought!
But if I had to pick, it'd be some foggy, grey town on the coast in the north of England. Stick with what you know, eh 😉

#HorrorWritersChat question 4 (last question but stick around in ten minutes for the outro):

You can only use one setting in all your horror works going forward. What/where would this place be?

Aghhh, that's tricky! Maybe space? Probably giving this answer because I've got space on the brain at the moment, but I feel like it's the location I could do the most with story-wise.

If it's somewhere I don't know, I get really paranoid about portraying it incorrectly and having people be like "that's not what it's like at all" 😆

#HorrorWritersChat question 3:

Are there any unique challenges for you when setting your horror work in a real place?

I tend to prefer fictional... not entirely sure why. Sometimes they're heavily based off real places though!

Do you tend to prefer real places, fictional, or a mix of both?

I keep missing #horrorwriterschat, glad I caught it today!
I'm Alice, I like writing people having existential crises, usually caused by some sort of paranormal weirdness.
My WIP isn't actually horror, it's a self-loathing researcher who gets trapped with 6 parallel universe versions of herself.
#HorrorWritersChat question 1:

Introduce yourself: Who are you, what do you write and tell us about your current WIP

January is always a lean month and I find myself predictably broke. So if you're interested in purchasing a signed copy of my book for a tenner, shoot me a DM. I have 6 copies up for grabs.

UK Folks.

If you're concerned about the catastrophic impact of generative AI on the creative industries & the theft of artists/writers creations, then you REALLY NEED to complete the below online consultation form.

Jess and Tim did an amazing job as editors for Howls from the Scene of the Crime, but you really have to read her short fiction if you love the gothic and the creepy. And volcanoes, but who doesn't love volcanoes? 🌋
Here is a selection I have up for award eligibility from this year! Two horror short stories that both happen to feature volcanoes, two selected poems - both speculative and apocalyptic, and one excellent anthology, if I do say so myself (as co-editor).
