I pitched my NYT editor that folks really need to understand that the deadweight loss of tariffs rises in the square of the tariff rate. Despite the wonkiness of it all, they said yes--as long as you can explain that intuitively.

Here's a somewhat contrarian view on the the presidential election: The results we've seen so far aren't particularly strong evidence of a deep shift toward Republicans among the American electorate.

Rather, it seems like a case of non-huge shifts having very big consequences.
