Moths. (Home trap located in VC13) Butterflies. MotorHomes. Scuba. Walking. Ebiking.
Of my five Oak Eggar eggs, left behind by a visiting female on 26th August 2025 just the one has survived the Winter in it’s temporary home in my garage. None of them stopped eating the whole time but four didn’t make it. Hopefully the remaining one might survive to adulthood? #TeamMoth

Actually caught a moth. The AI suggests Acleris umbrana but I’m doubtful so any suggestions please?

As it’s the off season for catching moths I tried a different type of catching today. Managed a brace of Merlangius merlangus. Whiting.
Returned to the sea after measurement and photos. #TeamFish

Putting on record the four species at the top of my 2026 wish list. Ticked off a few belters in 2025 but these still remain outstanding. What’s on your shortlist for the season?

Happy New Year #TeamMoth
Just reading the excellent “Enjoying Moths” by Roy Leverton and came across a little section suggesting a New Year’s Resolution that I, and a few others, might make. My apologies for all my previous “gripping” posts of 2025. I’ll try to do better in 2026.

Some more kWh burnt last night with a single LBAM and a couple of Tachystola acroxantha to show for it. Mild but too windy really. #TeamMoth VC13

It’s probably too cold but Ive put the Actinic out anyway. 🥶
My question is, #TeamMoth ,given my current moth shelf what should I be tracking down to read about Lepidoptera this Winter ?📚🤓

My second December Moth of the year just arrived. Those antennae don’t look particularly aerodynamic so I’m assuming they need to be that big to detect the female’s pheromone at some distance? #TeamMoth

In answer to @wheatersdave.bsky.social ‘ s earlier question-I was still waiting for one of these so it looks like I’m not quite done.

My five Oak Eggar caterpillars are still chomping away on Bramble leaves but are starting to explore the confines of their Winter quarters. Despite last week’s cold snap they haven’t yet shown signs that they’re stopping eating. Further shed skins suggest they’re 4th instar now. #TeamMoth

Anyone clever enough to put a name to any of these moths attracted to outside lights in Chobe, Botswana from a few years back?
Resorting to trawling unidentified moth photos now. 🤷‍♂️

Reading Atropos No76 featuring an interesting article of Julian Clarke’s account of finding Tamarisk Peacock.Chiasmia aestimaria in Sussex in 2024.
It reminded me that I may have trapped one on holiday in the South of France in 2023.
Tamarisk grows quite near here so one to watch out for?

It was chilly this morning at @nationaltrust.org.uk Sheffield Park with a North wind blowing.
At the bridge between Ten Foot Pond & Middle Lake the view was worth wrapping up for.
