A single painted bike lane, that looks like it’s barely 4 ft wide, sits on a vast road with fully 9 lanes dedicated to car traffic. The lane is sandwiched between a high speed right turn slip lane and a forward travel lane, with nothing separating them except some paint. What isn’t shown in the picture is that there’s no bike lane before the intersection, and no bike lane after it.

I don’t know how to pick one, so I’ll do three:
I did my longest ride yet at a metric century, I think I put more miles on bikes this year than my car, and my kiddo is having a blast biking on a new bike

the bike tools have breached containment

We've spent a ton of time talking about teens getting injured on e-bikes (or illegal e-motos).

We've heard that crash rates are skyrocketing. Marin County Dept of Health even set up a dashboard to see how many e-bike/e-moto crashes are happening.

But how many kids are getting hurt *in cars*?

I have a new nightmare intersection to go with my new commute.

You get to either
a) stop at a red light, far out of the car’s field of view, and then need to accelerate and merge into the traffic because no bike lane.
b) merge with cars going 40+mph because the bike lane ends at the intersection.

quiet night in the garage
a small electronic pot of melted grey wax sits, gently bubbling. A wire loop is submerged, with a small handle held above the wax by a Park Tools chain wear gage that sits across the pot. This is a chain waxing setup, and there’s presumably a bike chain under the wax, acquiring a fresh coat of lubricant.

We have entered the week where my commute becomes a race against the sun, before time change this weekend turns it into nighttime.

pretty phenomenal week.

interesting bits of math on my commute emissions:
driving to work is about 13,000 gCO2e (lifecycle gasoline).
e-biking is about 113 gCO2e for electricity, plus ~400 kilocalories.
acoustic biking is about 1,000 kilocalories.

Bike to the farmers market, dodge the parking and traffic mayhem, get some fresh air and sun in!

I have spent entirely too much on new bicycle wheels, and have surrendered to replacing perfectly butyl rubber with a new kind of bike goop. Tomorrow we’ll see if it actually makes my commute faster, but initial impressions are that I’m much more plush at least

I have a new contender for worst bike rack I’ve ever seen
The scene is dominated by massive bushes, taking up nearly the entirety of the frame. A sidewalk is barely visible on the right side, and some palms on the right. Just behind/within the bushes, a hint of wave bike rack can be seen.
