Sunday evening.
russia is attacking us with ballistic missiles for the second time today.

I just wonder if there’s anything left in our energy infrastructure that hasn’t been destroyed yet.

“I thought Covid was “over.” Everyone told me it was! They proclaimed these the “post-Covid games. “Why are the athletes taking such “extreme” measures if the pandemic is no longer a cause for concern? Didn’t Biden tell us that Covid ended all the way back in 2022? Didn’t we all move on from this?”
"But Covid is over! Why are you wearing a mask?"
To my absolute surprise this week (and surely to most Olympic athletes’ and Covid-minimizers’ dismay), respirators made a return appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

We had one hour of electricity and were told we’ll get about 1.5-2 hours a day (yes, out of 24 hours).
The boiler heated water,
I washed my hair,
charged the EcoFlow (not fully).

That’s all.
These are the consequences of russian attacks.

Keinoja on.

Greetings from Kyiv

Morning here.
Had a warcoffee, the EcoFlow barista made it.
No power, and no idea when it’ll return. russia launched a large-scale strike on Ukraine’s power grid, damaging major thermal plants and high-voltage lines.

Are you still here? Still listening to the story of genocide?

Why blame COVID restrictions in 2020 and 2021 for whooping cough infections that surged in 2024 and 2025? Doesn’t make sense. Meanwhile, lower vax rate and higher immune dysfunction caused by COVID infections are likely the main reasons
Whooping cough cases are at their highest level in 35 years – so why the surge?
This debilitating disease is particularly dangerous for babies, but can affect people at any age. Vaccination remains a key line of defence.

Check out these large effect sizes for shared classrooms & poor air on respiratory virus transmission risk 😳

I think maybe the "classrooms are the safest places for our kids" line was a bold sham?
We found that while close contact contributed to elevated risk (rate ratio 1.16 per doubling daily time, 95%-CI 1.01–1.33), time spent in shared classrooms and poor air quality had larger effects (RR 3.17, 95%-CI 1.96–5.17 and RR 1.90 95%-CI 1.23–2.94) respectively).

Important paper. Schools are high-risk environments for respiratory disease transmission MAINLY because classrooms are underventilated. This problem has a workable solution - it just needs political will. Air quality is as important as water quality for public health. MT @martinmckee.bsky.social
Our paper modelling transmission risk in schools is published in Nature Communications. **The relative contribution of close-proximity contacts, shared classroom exposure and indoor air quality to respiratory virus transmission in schools** doi.org/10.1038/s414...

This is a fantastic graphic on the post-viral impact of COVID published in Cell. When people think of long COVID, they likely think of the last image.

Many don't know the virus can worsen pre-existing conditions & causes new ones (e.g. autoimmune disease, stroke)
