So, I guess it could be that the 8 wanted to see just where negotiations went, and are ready to abort if they go nowhere. And it gives the Dems a chance to say, "See? We tried."
I guess we'll find out (after a tense week).

There will be another 60 vote Friday* on the garbage shutdown deal. If we can convince just one Senator from the 52 republicans and 8 Dems that voted yes to flip, we could still stop this. Please jump on the phone today, call them, and share this widely.

An explainer about where things are. It looks like there will have to be another vote that requires cloture.
🚨 The shutdown isn’t over. The Senate vote was a procedural step, not a deal. Nothing is reopening. Nothing is fixed. Eight Democrats helped move an old GOP bill while families go unpaid and SNAP stays frozen.

My fantasy (which this is making look a bit less fantastical) is that in 2026 the House and Senate both go 2/3 Ds. House elects new Speaker, then House impeaches and Senate convicts both Trump and Vance, making D Speaker Prez
Of course the risk of doing radical mid-decade gerrymandering for Rs in midterms always was that they weakened a lot of formerly safe Repub districts by moving R voters into Dem districts, which would backfire spectacularly if you have a blue wave scenario - making it a tsunami.

@magnuspharao.bsky.social I'm curious about the etymology of "metztli". The google AI claims the "me-" is related to the "me-" in Mexico, but that seems far-fetched to me. In much of the Americas, "moon" is basically "night sun", but that's clearly not the case here. Thanks.

@kenwhite.bsky.social Would NRA v. Vullo (2024) give Kimmel grounds for a large lawsuit against the FCC for the threat that has cost him his show? (And I also wonder if Kimmel really has a contract that let's him be fired for such weak cause.)

@knapsack77.bsky.social This probably says a lot about the clubhouse.
A church one city over is being auctioned off and if you want to get it, you'll need to beat the current bid of $53k by noon today. Warning: The renovation cost of this church is gonna be a whole lot more than that, I promise you.

I think the way to turn this administration’s tanking polls around is to have this creep talk about his plans for our children as much as possible.
Stephen Miller: "Children will be taught to love America. Children will be taught to be patriots. Children will be taught civic values for schools that want federal taxpayer funding ... we're gonna make sure these funds are not being used to promote communist ideology."

I would add that the R's voting bill might misfire the same way. How easy will it be for them to get easy access to birth and marriage certificates and the like to be able to vote?
With all the talk of product shortages , I think it should be said that products will first find their way to densely populated areas first and everywhere else, last
This certainly will hurt all those red counties. How they react to their shelves being everything will define the midterms

The last line of the 12th Amendment: "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."
I learned this in Junior High. Why didn't Kristen Welker? (And we know Trump doesn't know it because he's always a moron.)

Sorry, but why make an empty gesture? If they don't have a realistic chance of getting 67 Senators to convict, it's useless.
