With alt-text. The Parable of the Talents is a novel by Octavia Butler. It was published in 1998, a sequel to The Parable of the Sower (1993.) Both were award winning books.

I found a few of my old D&D rule books at my parent’s house. I’m having fun looking at how the rules have changed over the years. The small number of spells and the higher class specialization really stands out. I think thief in particular has lost a bit in the simplification of recent versions.

The new story about Neil Gayman is so horrific and heartbreaking I don’t think I’ll ever be able to look at his books again. How sad for everyone hurt.

Audio Books kept me sane when commuting, are great for walking, and let me enjoy books even when real life gets in the way of sitting down with a physical book. Not to mention that a good narrator can be a lot of fun!
Hey, just a note: Saying people are “illiterate” if they listen to audiobooks sucks for a bunch of reasons.

Hi, I’m Patrick and I “can’t have a learning disability because I get decent grades in honors classes”.
Hi I’m cee and I beat the crap out of all my final exams in gr. 9 but I was sandbagged out of IB classes in high school amyway because “her effortless mastery of these subjects is soured by in-class apathy and careless arrogance.”
Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school:

Hi, I'm Michael and I got the highest average but I don't actually deserve it because I never seem to make an effort to participate in classes

Same goes for the cartoons mocking trump just by making him fat. There are so many better ways to call them out. Stick to the options that don’t tell your friends that you think they are the butt of a joke.
(Thread)
I'm seeing posts going around with photoshops of Elon Musk in drag, as "First Lady" or otherwise, implicitly and/or explicitly mocking him as being subservient to Trump. Elon will never see those posts. Trump will never see those posts. They will never be harmed by them. (1/?)

It's chilly and I have a very soft fuzzy blanket and purring cats. While good for my mood, I really want to nap instead of work.

Cyndi Lauper can still put on a hell of a show. Girls just want fundamental rights! Vote for someone who will look out for you!

Over the Woodward Wall, An excellent book from Seanan McGuire is currently free to download. Highly recommended!
Well, in North America at least (I can't check other regions), book one, OVER THE WOODWARD WALL, is free in ebook format from all major retailers as of today. A free book!

Of course, the hope is that you'll read it, like it, and buy the rest. I would like that. But reading it comes first.

An excellent thread on digital security to help keep your accounts safe. The reminders are helpful even if you are already knowledgeable about such things.
It's December, so here are a collection of end of year digital housekeeping tasks you can do while chilling out for the holidays in order to improve your privacy and security for entering 2024 on a good footing. You don't have to do all of them, but they're stuff to consider!

All companies charging a subscription / recurring cost must make it possible to cancel with a single click. No upsells. No calling customer service who tries to talk you out of canceling.

How am I expected to get any work done, when the latest @seananmcguire.bsky.social book just came out , after the last book ended on a major cliffhanger? I guess the title "Sleep no more" is about to be accurate!

Scammer kept contacting me asking to chat, so I subscribed them to Lizard Facts. They were quite confused. What are your favorite ways to mess with scammers? (Besides ignoring and blocking, which is always the best option)

Stayed up way too late reading @maryrobinette.bsky.social ‘s The Spare Man, and predict the same happening tonight since I want to know how it turns out! It’s a fun mix of science fiction and mystery that is impossible to put down.

It was very exciting to see the Hugo nominees and realize how many of the Best Novel candidates I’ve read. Which reminds me that I need to go grab @tkingfisher.bsky.social ‘s Nettle and Bone from the TBR pile. Seems like a good way to spend a rainy weekend.
