Now retired science teacher and school leader, after 31 years I decided to hang up my chisel point. Grandad, father, husband, cyclist, birdwatcher, foodie and baker. Still interested in all things education especially research informed practice
What is wrong with us and with our society? Why are we so lacking in self confidence that we keep allowing people like Trump, Murdoch, Musk and others to set the agenda and the direction of travel of our culture? We are better than this.

I’m not sure of the exact translation but can confirm it has “intense smaak” and whatever “smeuig”is it certainly was “zeer”

I've been following a thread on the proposal to allow all students to choose triple science GCSE if they choose. Someone posted that "MOST" schools offer triple GCSE in the time for combined (2) this is not my experience but are they correct? Do "most" cram 3 subjects into the time for 2?

Bit of a mixed birthday weekend for me. On the positive, we welcomed into the world our second Grandson, Theodore. On the downside I seem to have had flu and been relegated to the settee under a blanket for most of it, thus delaying our chance to visit.

' @theobserveruk.bsky.social not particularly happy with the massively reduced TV pages. You might as well not bother IMO

I am assuming that now more details are out the delightful Mr R Lowe has rescinded his appalling letter to Keir Starmer?.... No??

When I trained to be a science teacher in 1993 you could get a bursary to train to be a chemistry or physics teacher.I retired last year. For the whole of my teaching career we have been short of science teachers, and now they want to make everyone do separate science GCSE. I am DEFINITELY retired 🤣

Surely we are all grown up enough not to continue to go through the ridiculous pretence that the results show is filmed on Sunday. #strictlycomedancing (or am I just a boring grump?)

I don't see much #strictlycomedancing chat over here....still not a reason to go back to the other place...😂

With a current political company seemingly reminisicing about the old days, I fully expect this to be their next partly political broadcast. I fear Mr Capstick would not approve. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2Ac...

Got it!!! Since comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon has been visible we have not had a clear horizon to see it. But patience has proven successful and so here it is. You will need binoculars and probably an app on your phone to find it as it is v faint. These are 2-4 second exposures.

Go and see this. The manager of the cinema is a film fan and at these showings he often does a little chat before the film. A previous customer reviewed the film like this (and they are correct) It is not a comedy but it will make you laugh (outloud) it is not a tragedy but it will make you cry.
Cultural activity of the morning; the Senior showing at our local cinema. Choice of Hammer House Curse of Frankenstein with Peter Cushing or I Swear. Going with the latter. Free coffee & biscuits £5 and the cinema is 3/4 full.

I heard this on @bbc6music.bsky.social this morning. Completely mad but impressive in its scale and they look like they had a load of fun making the video.

...and breath. Just watched ep 3 of #riotwomen. The restaurant scene and then the lunch with Tom....just magnificent. The two header over the meal........it deserved a cinema screen. Just briliant Sally Wainright. And as for Holly and her date; you just know someone has told her that.

I've just finished this and loved it. It is a very idiosyncratic rock memoir/ cookbook. I found it fascinating not least just how long ago some of my fave tracks were released. (Rapper's delight is older than I recalled.) See what Rockfield studios looked like, in www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

For half term activities this is a great book with real science ideas to have a go at. I have yet to find a science kit sold in a toy shop to come any where near it. Recommend without reservation.
Parents! Carers! Anyone thinking of buying a child a "science kit" for Christmas. For the same / less cost, buy a copy of "Recipes for Wonder" and put together a box of household "ingredients" which will let them do actual science and be a much more personal gift alomshaha.com/portfolio/mr...

I wonder why some double albums have discs with sides "1 & 4" and "2 & 3"? Does @iammilliam.bsky.social know?

Asking for a friend; when does doing adulting things, like home insurance or banking, start feeling like a normal thing to do and not that you are acting like a grown up, he's 59 next month!!! 😂
