Welsh Government's plan to implement recommended improvements to the control of agricultural pollution regulations is full of delay.

Yet more bad news both for rivers and for the majority of farmers who operate in a diligent and responsible way.

The latest environmental performance assessments for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water make for yet more grim reading to anyone concerned about rivers.

It means a disappointing third year in a row of 2-star status for Wales's largest water company.

Mae'r asesiadau diweddaraf o berfformiad amgylcheddol Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water yn peri pryder pellach i unrhyw un sy'n poeni am afonydd.

Mae hyn yn golygu trydedd flwyddyn siomedig yn olynol o statws 2-seren i gwmni dŵr mwyaf Cymru.

Mae Llywodraeth San Steffan wedi rhoi pwerau newydd i Asiantaeth yr Amgylchedd i ddirwyo cwmnïau dŵr am droseddau llai.

Felly, tra bod Lloegr yn bwrw ymlaen â mesurau i leihau llygredd gan gwmnïau dŵr, mae'n ymddangos bod Cymru eisoes wedi'i chlymu yn y blociau cychwyn.

The Westminster Gov has announced new powers for the Environment Agency to impose automatic fines on water companies for smaller offences.

So, while England is cracking on with measures to reduce water company pollution, Wales already appears to be stuck in the starting blocks.

Mewn datganiad heddiw, cyfaddefodd y Dirprwy Brif Weinidog y gallai’r diwygiadau mawr eu hangen i reoleiddio’r diwydiant dŵr gymryd sawl blwyddyn i’w gweithredu.

Er ei bod yn bwysig gwneud y peth yn iawn, mae hwn yn amser na all afonydd Cymru fforddio ei golli.

While it is important to get it right, this is time Welsh rivers can ill afford.

Our September river of the month's Welsh name means "abounding in fish."

It is perhaps no surprise that the local clergy once tried to have fishing in it banned on Sundays, such was the lure of the riverbank.

Water supply problems are not a new issue for the UK.

In the 1880s, a river in Wales was dammed to give Liverpool a desperately needed new supply. It sparked a scramble by other cities to secure their own Welsh water.
