Gravel is the unsung hero of healthy rivers.

I think it is (almost) as important for river wildlife as the water that flows over the top.

The sediments, pebbles rocks and stones are vital to healthy rivers but they are also under threat.

One of the problems with culverts (aside from acting as a barrier to most ecosystem services and connections) flume tests show they generally leak (unseen) around the structure from day one...meaning they fail catastrophically too as the leaks can't be inspected
