The shutdown leaves all of northern Gaza without a functioning entry point for humanitarian or commercial supplies, straining daily life for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians returning to the area. Zikim is one of seven ground crossings into Gaza, but only two are currently operating — and only a trickle of aid has entered over the past month. Mahmoud says the ground reality directly contradicts claims that conditions are improving; in reality, shortages are worsening, and the few goods available on the market are largely non-essential.
