I would like to re-emphasize that when data are "publicly available" (as authors frequently mention), the LICENSE matters. Most AEA replication packages are fully or partially under a #CC-BY license. You have ONE (only ONE) obligation, but you MUST fulfill that one obligation: CITE THE DATA!

#sole2025 coming up! I'll be there, hanging around the post-lunch Poster session (P01/2 Metropolitan East) on Friday, if you have questions! (My name tag will give me away). Or buttonhole me at the Cocktail reception on Saturday.
June 27-29, 2025, Toronto 🇨🇦: I will be at EALE-SOLE, available for impromptu chats. Will find a space to do a popup AMA coffee (or drinks), stay tuned!

It is always a pleasure, but also causes some trepidation 😰, when a bunch of motivated junior (and senior!) researchers get together at @i4replication.bsky.social replication games, and I get to observe how others work with the replication packages that we helped prepare! #Montreal

Summer is approaching, and so are various conferences. As so often, I target being available at various conferences, including presenting and answering questions. Here is a list of places and times in the next two months.

My apologies for not posting this earlier (there's other stuff happening), but for those wrapping up their AEA Papers and Proceedings replication packages, here is some guidance aeadataeditor.github.io/aea-de-guida...
Preparing your replication package for Papers and Proceedings
Much of the preparation for the replication packages for papers published in Papers and Proceedings is the same as for the AEA journals, see Step 1 and Step 2. However, our compliance check is mor...

Short note on provision of "raw" data in replication packages. "Raw" are data files exactly as downloaded from original source. Not renamed, not converted, not made prettier. All that is important, and is the next step, for which you provide code (or instructions). But "raw" is as "raw as it gets".

I sometimes see researchers doing copy-pasting between output from Stata/R/MATLAB ➡️Excel, to create tables. This is a lot of work, source of many copy-paste errors & a bad 👿idea. I describe 1 way to avoid this, even when you don't want to invest in a new and better tool. Think "halfway house"...
