AEA Data Editor
@aeadata.bsky.social
Data editor for the American Economic Association - for official guidance, always go to http://aeaweb.org and https://aeadataeditor.github.io. Does not follow persons (sorry)
That's not the kind of precision that the @creativecommons.bsky.social folks say: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/...
That being said, I was (for rhetorical reasons) simplifying somewhat. But I would be happy if folks would actually do that one thing, bc generally, they do none of that....

Luckily, just about any repository out there hosting replication packages (and other data) provide you with a
SIMPLE
way to do that: Copy the citation... (or use your citation manager, e.g. @zotero.org to store the DOI). #datacitation #openscience

I would like to re-emphasize that when data are "publicly available" (as authors frequently mention), the LICENSE matters. Most AEA replication packages are fully or partially under a #CC-BY license. You have ONE (only ONE) obligation, but you MUST fulfill that one obligation: CITE THE DATA!

It is always a pleasure, but also causes some trepidation 😰, when a bunch of motivated junior (and senior!) researchers get together at @i4replication.bsky.social replication games, and I get to observe how others work with the replication packages that we helped prepare! #Montreal

The essence combines some R code (could be done in others) and an Excel TEMPLATE with cell references that gets updated by R.
Some colleagues have suggested "but use package XYZ, it's worth it!" I agree👍. But for those who disagree: go see the tutorial at aeadataeditor.github.io/posts/2025-0...

Unfortunately, Github only captured our OLD documentation (version 1, if you like) github.com/AEADataEdito.... For the newest guidance and documentation (e.g., you are preparing your AEA P&P files...), please see aeadataeditor.github.io, no snowshoes necessary.

So HI! We are here now.
And I wanted to start with a shoutout to all the Data Editors out there: I just got the following message from an author (who has work to do!), and it felt good! @koren.mk (ReStud) + others not (yet) on 📈📉 (Ecta, EJ, CJE, MgmtS, EI, etc. - you know who you are!)
