For those on the Right, free speech means the freedom to spread misinformation, fear, and hatred without being held to account. Read @adelewalton.bsky.social on the UK Online Safety Act.
Redefining Free Speech
The UK Online Safety Act aims to protect people online. Could the legislation reinstate the principles of free speech and preserve democratic debate?

I wrote about my thoughts on Instagram’s repost feature. It’s a smart and sinister move to keep us hooked at a time when posting on social media platforms feels too icky. loggingoffclub.substack.com/p/new-instag...

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

YouTube says it banned Andrew Tate. So why is his face still all over their platform?

Hear from activist and book author @adelewalton.bsky.social who explains our findings.

Watch. Share. Call on YouTube to stop enabling & profiting from Andrew Tate’s extreme misogyny.

In many ways, Bender and Hanna successfully demonstrate that AI is a con. It fails at productivity and intelligence, while the hype launders a series of transformations that harm workers, exacerbate inequality and damage the environment.

Nice write-up of The AI Con by Luke Munn @theconversation.com
Is AI a con? A new book punctures the hype and proposes some ways to resist
AI slop means faster and cheaper content, and the technical and financial logic of online platforms creates a race to the bottom.

this! don't call me a "denialist", "pessimist" or anything negative if I have all the empirical evidence and receipts while the other side shows up with "potentials", "possibilities" & other buzzword. call me an expert, a scientist or a realist
Hm. Don't think I'm on board with calling AI skeptics/critics "denialists." Seems to obscure the fact that there is an ideological contestation at play, rather than, as with climate change, an empirical or even epistemological one.
