Imho, the bond market won't resist any of the five profiles currently considered by the Trump administration for Fed chair.

The eventual test of the bond market resolve to act as the vigilante protecting the Fed independence would be if the Supreme Court allows the firing of Lisa Cook
One important caveat: If you're hoping the market will resist a Hassett nomination, think again. The bond market will need to see hard evidence that Hassett is taking a political action that would risk an inflation spike. Just pushing for big rate cuts won't do it. Any reckoning is at best deferred.

By financial literacy, the 🇪🇺 Commission means convinving people to put their savings in the financial markets' casino, by mobilising symbolic violence ('literate' invests in stocks vs 'illiterate' saves in bank account)

This is pure propaganda for propping the financial sector profits. Shameful

An absolute must read for every political scientist working on interest groups in the #EU

This is a textbook case of corporate sector lobbying to dismantle regulations that they perceive as harmful for their profitability ( #CSDDD is not even transposed into national law and yet already gutted)
🚨Exposed: how a secretive alliance of US companies is working to tear down the CSDDD.

They:
- Aimed to get “the most extreme position” in the European Parliament
- Worked to mobilise pressure from non-EU countries
- Paid for a think tank report

Essential (but disheartening) article by @euractiv.com on how EU corporate sector & its lobbyists built a coalition with the VdL 2 Commission, and the right-to-far-right majority in the EP to dismantle EU regulations.

The US Supreme Court just announced that it will hear arguments on January 21 in the case Cook v. Trump

The Supreme Court ruling will determine if Trump can remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and will therefore have major implications for the #Fed 's independence from the executive branch.

Kinda looks like the September 2019 repo glut :

Quantitative Tightening => depletion of banks' excess reserves > liquidity pressures & ↗️ of repo lending rates => increasing use of Fed standing repo facility

Key question for next Fed meeting : just end QT or restart QE ?

Today's decision seems to confirm that the US Supreme Court means to differentiate between the #Fed and the other independent agencies : in Trump v Slaughter (the for-cause removal of an FTC Commissioner litigation), the Court granted the administrative stay while setting oral arguments for December
Just in: The Supreme Court has refused to let Donald Trump immediately fire Lisa Cook, deferring the US president's application until the justices hear oral arguments in the case in January 2026. on.ft.com/3WeV2C2

What a terrific idea to foster economic growth: instead of public investment (in infrastructure, or digital & green transitions for example), let's use public money to incentivise (through costly tax breaks) an increase in households' risk-taking, by putting their savings into bonds & stocks.
