I’m thrilled to share that I am officially working with McFarland & Company on a book (working title): “Salón de la Fama: Immortals from Latin America’s Baseball Halls of Fame.”

My baseball research journey over the last 20 years has been an evolution.

He actually has the highest OPS+ in the history of the Cuban League, per Seamheads. His .302/.390/.417 line doesn’t jump off the page, but the Cuban League was an EXTREME pitchers environment. During his career, the league batted just .218. www.seamheads.com/NegroLgs/his...

Going to try to squeeze in one more bio tonight. This dude was a TANK.

I must be doing something right because someone I don’t know was recording a podcast episode on this you and they reached out to me to contribute. What a treat. 🥰

This is why Minnesotans are begging folks outside the state to keep talking about us.

Please don’t let the world forget we are still in danger.
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

SABR brother @adarowski.bsky.social needs no intro. The prolific Sr. Design Director at Sports Reference is also co-chairman of the SABR Overlooked 19th c. Legends committee. This month, he presents daily videos about Black & Latin American baseball stars. An educational way to start your day.
A 44-year-old pitcher throwing 27 strikeouts in a 12-inning game may sound like fiction, but that was exactly what Smokey Joe Williams did in a 1930 pitchers duel against Chet Brewer.

I really appreciate that! 🙌

holy shit a reasonable take about Negro League stats on the internet 🏆
February 11, 2026 at 3:36 PM
It's a good reminder of:

1. How much more context we *could* provide with these stats to explain why they were different, but still important.

2. That people won’t fucking read it anyway.

If I took a shot every time one our social media posts mentioned a non-AL/NL stat and someone replied with “well my little league stats” I’d be fucking dead.
February 11, 2026 at 3:17 PM
While technically a "non-league" game, it was between two top clubs so the numbers are included on Seamheads/Retrosheet/Baseball Reference.

I continue to be fascinated by this 27-strikeout game by Smokey Joe Williams

And here’s Cuba

Haven’t done his bio yet but looking forward! In 7 seasons in Mexico, he hit .317 with 106 HR in 533 game. He slugged .583. First three seasons in particular were great:

1945: .336 2 HR 92 RBI 86 G .670 SLG
1946: .332 25 HR 108 RBI 99 G .657 SLG
1947: .305 22 HR 82 RBI 111 G .557 SLG

Today’s video on Artie Wilson… 👀
While Ted Williams is the player to hit .400 in the AL or NL, Artie Wilson is the most recent player to do so in any of the Major Leagues.

Coolest Czech stuff I got from Mike since these.

Czech out these sick bookmarks from @michaelclair.bsky.social to commemorate his forthcoming book on Czech baseball. Do yourself a favor and order this book. Mike’s passion comes through in everything he does. Can’t wait to get my hands on this.

I had some leftover picadillo from last night and my oldest suggested a shepherds pie. To stick with the Puerto Rican vibe, the potatoes are mashed with sazón, adobo, cornstarch, and fresh cilantro. This was a winner. Shown with leftover empanadillas de pollo and some adobo brussels.
