In truth, it is denial: distortion, omission and conspiracy-minded wish-thinking aimed at a left still unwilling to face the Corbyn years, writes Adam Langleben, Executive Director of Progressive Britain

A "pro-Palestine' march passes me in Bath. Perhaps they're good people, I think to myself. The hippyish Quakers I remember from, say, being a member of Bath CND in the 80s. They're not *necessarily* antisemites, I say. So I check out their X feed. And it's awful.

The British left should just ignore the American left. I cannot think of a single useful thing it could learn from it.
The funniest thing about intra-left anglosphere political disputes is that both sides are basically mad at the other for not doing Clintonism hard enough.

‘No YOU abandoned working class kitchen table politics to chase boutique activist causes!’

Unite the Union not being very subtle... translation: a former employee is criminally f*cked. So much more to say on this bloke when this all comes out.

I just saw the news about Agnes Slocombe passing. Serving West Hendon alongside Agnes was a tremendous honour. She taught me what proper public service looked like. A passionate and practicing Christian, she turned her values into action with every act. A powerhouse and trailblazer. Very very sad.

"British Stalinism – unlike some of its global south and European counterparts – has a unique quality, as demonstrated by the Corbyn fiasco in 2019: it invariably destroys anything it gains control of." 👏

Make no mistake. This defection is a power play to be the heir apparent to Corbyn, and trying to force Corbyn to play along because JC hates conflict, but can never make a decision.
The far left internal battles have come, gone and come again. But always the same since 2015.

On the hard left, it's the battle of who speaks for JC. Because he isn't the sharpest tool. If JC is the glue, then whoever controls him, controls the left.

Bouncing him into co-leading is a power play.

Thrilled that my former West Hendon ward councillor colleague Agnes Slocombe has been made an MBE. First Black Woman Mayor of Barnet. A trailblazer. And a constant source of wisdom.

Any deal that reduces red tape and makes people feel that little bit better off is a better deal than we have now. The Prime Minister is right to go for a closer relationship with the EU. This government will be judged in the end on living standards, and improving this must be the top priority.

Worthwhile day on the doorsteps in my home patch of Barnet yesterday. Barnet is London's bellweather borough on the country and Whetstone is Barnet's Pennsylvania. Very important win with one eye on the London elections next year. Whetstone used to be the heart of a super safe Tory ward. No longer!
Whetstone (Barnet) Council By-Election Result:

🌹 LAB: 33.5% (-18.0)
🌳 CON: 28.4% (-7.8)
➡️ RFM: 20.5% (New)
🌍 GRN: 7.2% (-5.1)
🔶 LDM: 6.1% (New)
🇪🇺 REU: 2.3% (New)
🧑‍🔧 TUSC: 1.6% (New)
🙋 Ind: 0.5% (New)

Labour HOLD.

Results so far just reconfirmed 2024 GE result. No such thing as a safe seat for any party. We have to work for every vote, everywhere. The public are (rightly) ery impatient. But can you read much into the results that we didn't already know?
I don't think so.
