Is our sensitivity to pain influenced by signals coming from our blood vessels? This could explain why when we raise the arm on which a capsaicin patch is applied, the pain becomes much worse, a phenomenon we describe and probe in our latest paper doi.org/10.1002/ejp....

Is interoceptive sensing unified across internal organs? 🫀🫁 Our high-powered psychophysical study (N=241) suggests not. Bayesian evidence indicates interoceptive processes are largely modality-specific—challenging the idea of a unitary interoceptive sense.

1. Twenty-some years ago, as the embers of the intelligent design movement were dying out, a loose band of thinkers known as the New Atheists made a name for themselves by confusing materialist methodology with materialist metaphysics and going on the offensive against all of organized religion.

Thanks to the @researchdigest.bsky.social for featuring our recent paper on how raising the arm on which a capsaicin patch has been applied dramatically changes the pain elicited by the patch in question!

Blood vessels probably aren't the first thing you'd associate with feeling pain.

New findings from @acourtin.bsky.social and team, however, suggest that they may play a larger role than we suspected: www.bps.org.uk/research-dig...

A quick reminder that if you think that activity in beta band is an oscillation, think again. β band is dominated by bursts that are not homogeneous. Diversity of the β burst waveforms exceed characteristics found in time-freq. We havecode and nice figures 🧪 #neuroskyence
