In Kansas, someone can be arrested and have their life ruined well before they even have their first appearance in court. This isn't justice—which is why we're working so hard to fix our broken systems.

To further highlight points made in The Price of Freedom, Nykia Gatson explains...

Under our criminal legal system, whether or not you sit in jail depends on whether you have thousands of dollars to spend to get out. That's not justice.
September 29, 2025 at 3:31 PM
All it takes is one interaction with the criminal legal system to permanently alter your life—and it doesn't matter if you're found guilty or not. Even in cases where it'sclear that someone should return home, cash bail as a default can cause them to lose their housing and their job.

When authorities are unleashed on people for sharing their opinions, our communities and our values are threatened. We can not allow this to become the norm in our state.
August 29, 2025 at 2:49 PM
The Trump administration continues to perpetuate anti-immigrant sentiment, this time by restricting public benefit programs to folks with certain immigration statuses. Kansans won't fall for rhetoric that points to immigrants as the faulty ones in our broken healthcare system.
