I found this a really illuminating thread on what demonstrations do and why they matter.
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

When I see lamentations of the supposed loss of the US position as "the envy of the world," "shining city on a hill," "beacon of hope," I see tired arrogance and exceptionalism that the world can do without. The empire dying is good. It's the hateful, isolationist crash and burn that's unfortunate.

DO THIS. I just did. It only takes a minute!!

Canadians across the country are rallying behind a petition to revoke Elon Musk's citizenship.
He wasn't born in Canada. He represents profoundly anti-democratic values.
In Canada citizens can present these petitions to Canada’s parliament.
I support them.
