Given the US's descent into authoritarianism and the arrest/disappearance/deportation of those speaking up for Palestinian rights, it is on all of us, particularly those with privileged/safer backgrounds (eg US citizens) to speak up against US enabled / IDF enacted war crimes.

Free Palestine.

the amount of academic research now using llms in research (synthetic data generation, to classify, annotate, or analyse large scale data, etc) is astounding. remember, just cus use of llms in research is becoming normalised does NOT erase the fact it degrades the research & undermine your results

Hello! Has anyone here used tango (www.tangocard.com) to pay participants for research studies? I was curious in using it, but wanted to see if there was anyone who had used it before who could talk about their experience with it, if they'd recommend it, etc.

Chat Control is the latest example of "But think about the children!" (BTATC) policy proposal that ends privacy as we know it. It would have an algorithm scan your messages, detect whether its illegal content, and then report it to authorities. What would actually happen: mass surveillance.

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Hi all! Here again with another reading recommendation ask. As part of my course on research ethics, one of the classes will be about the ethics of AI / LLMs in research -- from using AI for writing, analyzing data, as interviewers, etc. Anyone have papers or books they'd recommend as readings?

Been a while since I posted (trying to keep off social media and such), but a reminder that Israel is committing a genocide in Palestine, enacting mass starvation on innocent civilians, all with the complicity of the west. It is sickening.

Free Palestine. End imperialism. End the genocide.

If you are an EU citizen, please consider signing the #StopKillingGames initiative! It would make game companies let players play games they have purchased even after official support ends. Great for game preservation and consumer rights! More info here: www.stopkillinggames.com

One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects.

It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this.

The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.

Hi all! Im creating a course dedicated to research ethics. Topics include history of research ethics; famous case studies in unethical research (e.g., Stanford prison experiment, Tuskeegee syphyllis experiment, etc.), informed consent, etc. If anyone has readings / recs / advice, let me know!

The mods of r/ChangeMyView shared the sub was the subject of a study to test the persuasiveness of LLMs & that they didn't consent. There’s a lot that went wrong, so here’s a 🧵 unpacking it, along with some ideas for how to do research with online communities ethically. tinyurl.com/59tpt988
