Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

its wild that elissa slotkin (and democratic leadership) has this as their takeaway from the 2024 election, when kamala harris did more campaigning with liz cheney than she did with bernie sanders and aoc. they hate their own voters. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

HEY EVERYONE REMEMBER WHEN TRUMP WAS IMPEACHED FOR DENYING AID TO UKRAINE BECAUSE HE WANTED ZELENSKY TO LIE AND SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT BIDEN AND ZELENKSY WOULDN’T DO IT?

Maybe literally one fucking American newspapers could mention this in their, “think pieces,” about what happened yesterday.

Among the many avenues Democrats need to be pushing *now* is:

Trump, Musk, and their Republican enablers just compromised the personal and financial info of every American.

This isn't hyperbole; it already happened. They broke all the cybersecurity protocols and are concealing what they're doing.
Several conversations today w people in the key executive departments. And while the particulars are hard to pin down my impression is that the Musk take over stuff is considerably worse than is being presented in the press. By this I don’t necessarily things they *done* yet but the level of …

16 Democratic senators recently voted to confirm the Trump-appointed Treasury Secretary who just gave Musk’s team access to a Treasury payment system that disburses trillions and holds mass quantities of personal information. Food for thought. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Dear Democrats: You can't defeat the threat to democracy by becoming the threat to democracy.
In 2019, when Trump wanted John Ratcliffe as his head of National Intelligence, Democrats called him shockingly unqualified, noting his only qualification was loyalty to Trump. Trump had to pull the nomination and do a recess appointment.

Today, only 25 Dems voted against him for head of the CIA.

Worth underscoring. The right has built a powerful communications apparatus driven by politics, emotion and entertainment that sustained unpopular ideas for decades, working them into the party’s agenda and ultimately state and federal law.
One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.

Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.

Want to reassure everyone how alone we are NOT.

If the numbers are right, voter turnout was only 65%, meaning that Trump's total is only 33% of eligible voters.

Account for mass voter suppression, which is no conspiracy - it is FACT - and you've got much less than 1/3 of the country behind him.

Sunday reading: What awaits us in a second Trump presidency?

A much more extreme rightwing regime that is vastly better prepared and will be operating under conditions that are significantly more favorable to its political cause.

I wrote about what’s different than in 2016/17.

This week’s piece:
Why the Second Trump Regime Will Be Far More Dangerous
This will be a much more radical regime – and it will operate under conditions that are vastly more favorable to its extremist cause
