When I had my hysterectomy, I was told recovery would be quick because I was young, fit & otherwise healthy.

They were wrong. The surgeon made an error and despite signs of post op bleeding, discharged me & went on vacation.

When I returned to the ER, I was ignored & gaslit 🧵

To give you a sense of how pervasive this problem is - my ER missed my STROKE this week! The arteries to my brain are so narrowed, and they discharged me with no treatment. If I get my BP checked lying flat it feels like im being strangled to death.

ER totally missed it.

This is why we need a patient revolution. Healthcare is sick and we all need to demand reform. We need more caring and slower care. Please support @patientrevolution.org and its efforts to reform industrialized healthcare.
A new study confirms what so many already know: being dismissed by doctors can be as traumatic as illness itself.
Patients report four kinds of harm: shame, lost trust, delayed diagnosis, avoiding care.

This is what I tried to name in The Invisible Kingdom: www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/h...
Did you leave the doctor feeling worse? How to recognize, respond to medical gaslighting
A Rutgers study found that dismissing patient symptoms causes lasting harm, including shame and avoidance of care.

Corruption in healthcare. This is why we revolt.
"The Times analysis also found that skipping patients is exacerbating disparities in health care. When lists are ignored, transplants disproportionately go to white and Asian patients and college graduates."

Every part of the healthcare system is stretched and at or near crisis level, but the ER departments are in serious crisis. THE PITT and this article show how hard it is on the healthcare professionals--WHICH HAS A DIRECT IMPACT ON PATIENTS TOO.

Darn good for a small metro area. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽, to @indivisiblecville.bsky.social for organizing the event. BTW, the protester's father is a retired history professor. Clearly a good man.

It’s far too soon to ascribe responsibility for the horrific DC plane collision, but it’s not too soon to say that dismantling the safeguards afforded by a functioning federal government put us at significant risk. And it’s irrefutable that, since January 20th, we are all less safe.
