Chronically ill writer and science communicator ♿ Living on stolen Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land. Ask me about books!

Hi, I'm Anna! I'm a #pwME working in #SciComm mostly from my home office, where I (unsuccessfully) try to keep my cat from joining every Zoom meeting.

My special skills are composing short-form social media posts, getting excited about your research and adding too many books to my to-read list.
Some supplements you get from Chemist Warehouse are "practitioner only"

(sometimes only a single brand of a supplement there are other options for?)

Someone at CW has to review your order - but I always wonder, what kind of practitioner? They'd say "pharmacist" if they meant it

Part of #ChronicIllness for me is the constant tweaking of supplement regimens

I distrust the supplement industry, but I've had doctors, pharmacists and patient forums recommend stuff to me

And sometimes I feel bad enough to give anything a go

Maybe the placebo will placebo hard enough this time

Though I've avoided the dentist for a few years, I still had nothing wrong with any of my teeth

Bless the fluoridated drinking water I've drunk my whole life, both in Finland and Australia

nothing like going to look at a rental

and overhearing that your competition owns their own home and works three days a week because they own their own practice, but wants to live closer to the city

I don't understand (well, I do, but... yeah) why folks are talking this research down.

I think it's very positive.

All parties (particularly competitors 👀) should be cheering everyone else on and moving forward with *treatments*.

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
There's a huge BUT coming ...🧵

Happy #chemnobel day to all who celebrate. Let's see if any of our predictions and prognostications come true, or if we're all scrabbling when the #NobelPrize announcement comes in 15 minutes.

I've had an "evolving mole" cut out from the back of my ankle (#JustAustralianThings) and need to avoid flexing my foot

I was limping uncomfortably on my toes on the one foot until I realised nobody could stop me from walking around like this
a video game shows three burglars jumping over a wooden fence

What's wrong with dragons Martin???? 😱😱

But I can't watch the show, it's way too violent for me. I unfortunately really enjoy the books though, even despite all the unnecessary fantasy sexism

"The NDIS was never envisaged that 40 per cent of the population would be on it. It's about giving people support who need it."

Should've thought about that before setting the Australian COVID-19 policy to "let her rip", huh?

Living with a dynamic disability is so weird

Some mornings you wake up with new symptoms and must try to divine which of your activities or behaviours in the past 24-48 hours - that have never caused these symptoms before - might have caused them

It's like my body is ruled by a capricious god
