I've seen a lot of people claim Higurashi is a Christian text, but the theme of Higurashi is that good people can be corrupted. Christianity's bedrock is the concept of original sin, so the two don't mix.

The central conflict being "all the bad guys are best friends who have no disagreements but don't want to upset each other" may sound boring, but that's only because it is. A corny screed about peaceful protests that rings flat in 2025. Au au au.

HIGURASHI 7: MINAGOROSHI (2005)
I'm all for stories of hope, and I'm really proud that Ryukishi turned these ideas into something bold with Umineko, but this a taxing read that is bloated by the author's fear of a single detail not being understood to a shimmer.

I cannot overstate how much I hate the change from arc 3's theme of "sometimes the system is set against you, neither the police nor gang violence nor vigilantes can stop this abuse" to "both the police and organized crime rings will divert gobs of money and resources to a little girl for no gain"
HIGURASHI 6: TSUMIHOROBOSHI
Setting aside "the Yakuza Who Don't Do Anything are cool and good" bit, the theme of carrying burdens and sins and the purpose of confession, forgiveness, and love is great. Incredible highs, but at this point I've lost interest in the broader story.

Higurashi commits what is known in my heart as the Forbidden Kingdom Heartsaroo: the act of making a huge deal out of something that turns out to be a lie or irrelevant at the nearest convenience.

I've been bummed out by the switch struggling to keep a steady 25 fps since 2018, so it's a little annoying to see Nintendo Fan channels talk about "games actually run ok now" is the secret selling point of the switch.

For the Xbox platform division, hitting 30% profit margins has required a drastic rethink. For individual games, it's not a completely unrealistic target... except they're all released day-one on Xbox Game Pass, cannibalizing sales.
