First we must build a clock.
#6502 #beneater

Resisted the urge to just copy Ben's layout and forced myself to wing it based off the schematics. I really need to get better at that side of things anyway.

Just the first module atm.

Decided I don't like the supplied wire so ordered some spools.

So excited. Took a punt on some (NOS) MOS 6561s out of China. They passed the first test of matching resistance between vss and vdd compared to a legit chip and then in a bare bones board it generated legit clock out. With all the chips in both chips fully work.

And so it begins #6502

Looking back through some photos from late last year and came across these bangers I'd forgotten about.

Camping with friends and was showing their teen kids how we could do long exposure light trail painting shot with our phones.

The kid's enthusiasm and energy from it was pretty contagious.

Modding a Gameboy Color I picked up a fee weeks back. It already had an IPS screen replacement, but I'd been waiting on stuff to get USBC charging in there was well as LED lights.

Some great mods sourced from @nataliethenerd.com

Well that was a lot of hard work. Someone owes me a Giant Steak Dinner. The app said so.

Got an Atari 520STFM ages ago, did some minor fixes, ordered a SD card HD emulator and a mouse adapter. Then it promptly went back in the box.

Buddy on a group got one with a problem so I got mine out to help check his issue. Which made me realise mine didn't have working composite out, only RF

Some sunbrighting progress on one of my Vic20s

The top row shows machine A's sunbrighting progression over 2 days in about 6 hours of Australian sunlight.

The bottom Row shows machine B which is a control for comparison and has had no brighting

The third Vic 20 works now too. Broken Basic Rom, broken Vic, and a broken Via. All borrowed chips for now. Shame the Vic chips are so expensive to replace.

Although the case is a silver it has a shortboard inside. Seems it was swapped in at some point in its history.

Next Vic20 was just a "20" with an obviously missing VlC I chip. I put in a socket and borrowed my one good VIC and bingo, it just works. Such a perfectly pristine case on this one too.

Built a .d64 disk image of some Vic 20 games on my PC, copied it to a real disk via my C64 Ultimate, and loaded that disk on the Vic20 I got running yesterday. Loaded fine and played great so I guess the 6522s are probably fine?

Picked up some "unknown condition" Vic 20s for an ok price. Managed to get one working, one has no video chip at all and the other has a broken Vic and Basic Rom (yet to put a working Rom in)

I might try to write some Vic 20 compatible prgs to a floppy disk via one of my c64s next session.

Having some fun with this latest faulty pickup - a PSP. Buttons not working and maybe needing a new battery were the advertised faults. Powered up via the bench ok. Faulty buttons = a missing screw on the Dpad assembly which let the backing come out of alignment and slip under the screen a little.

Because some comments said there wasn't enough time to add extra sprites, I filled the vertical screen with sprites that update their position every line, and added music... The #C64Ultimate really does have a lot of CPU time...

Picked up a parts Gameboy Color that was missing a few crucial bits that someone has hacked at before. Poking around and looking at schematics showed that power wasn't getting to the switch as some vias were just not connected.

A quick bodge and connect power and it's alive!

Rehoming one of my 1541 drives so pulled it off the shelf and tested it with the C64 Ultimate. It happily loaded a few disks - ones I'd written last year such as this pitfall one, but also an original Geos disc.

It got a full alignment check last year so mainly just checking it still works.

Wanted to test the C64 Ultimate's streaming which meant hooking it up via LAN cable in my very overcrowded and messy office and stacking it on top of my 128D

Always jealous of peoples large work areas. My electronics workbench is the kitchen table and this room is full of old hardware.

2 years ago when I got a whole car full of C64 gear I assumed that I'd need so many PLA replacements and so stocked up on so many parts to build GAL PLAs. Turns out all my PLAs were fine (many other repairs required tho) but last week I finally built one to help someone out.

This shows an optimised 3D test on my new #Commodore64Ultimate machine, running at 64MHz. Full source code and the PRG file are linked in the video description. The optimisation is run from RAM, not cartridge ROM. It's a lot faster than the stock C64 now.

Had my first play with mcdraw.xyz to paint up scene from #thelongdark in commodore 64 format and then ran it on on my #C64 Ultimate. Complete mis-mashup across the eras but it made me happy and kept me oit of trouble for a few hours. Dithering definitely has it's challenges.

Bit of random fun with the C64 Ultimate today - Tried to get AOTPR to load quicker with my physical Action Replay cart but think I had a clash with the REU addressing as it wouldnt find one.

Bought & Installed Jiffydos and that all then worked fine. Got FTP and telnet working too.

Solar panels doing an awesome job today. Heatwave outside, aircon on, oven roasting food for xmas, had the washing machine, dishwasher, and ice cream maker all working away at different stages. Barely made a dent.
