I always feel particularly happy when my Coffee and Walnut Cake is #RecipeOfTheDay. Yes, I adore the flavours but, more than that, I have such a deep emotional attachment to this classic bake. And I know that many of you do, too! www.nigella.com/recipes/coff...
Coffee and Walnut Layer Cake
Neither of my grandmothers, nor indeed my mother, was a baker but this cake is nonetheless the cake of my childhood. When I was little, I used to make it for my younger sister's birthday every year, b...

Homemade lemon tendercake. It's that time of year when we say farewell to our wonderful resident doctors in training in our NHS child mental health team. This cake has now become the customary send off - a wonderful @nigella.bsky.social recipe that always goes down a treat. 🍋

Thought I'd honour my mum's birthday - the first since her death - by baking a chocolate cake. Mum would always bake us a chocolate cake for our birthdays when we were growing up. I initially thought I'd keep it simple, with just a sprinkling of icing sugar...

Wonderful, generous Yemeni food at Paddington's Queen of Sheba.

Mum's birthday today, the first one since her death. It's a strange juxtaposition: a day where we'd normally celebrate her birth, when her death is still so fresh in our hearts. It's quite hard to get my head around it all. Remembering her dearly, with a bowl of homemade chicken soup & kneidlach. ❤️

Homemade rice pud. I make various types, but in the mood this frosty weekend for a baked pudding with nutmeg. I love Felicity Cloake's recipe, which includes bay leaves, lemon rind, vanilla and a splash of Pedro Ximinez.

I love how Anna Ansari evocatively weaves personal memoir and historical narrative into her cookbook, Silk Roads. I really enjoyed making her 'Risotto Alla Bukarese', Anna's homage to the Bukharan Jewish rice dish, bakhsh - a dish brought to Central Asia by Jews fleeing Persia in the 6th century. 🌿

My year in books! As you can see, I've been devouring food memoir, especially with so many superb ones out this year. Each one I found inspiring, particularly as I get on with writing my own. So many other food-themed books I'm looking forward to reading too. If you have any recs, I'd love to know!
