25 years ago, I interviewed Issam in Gaza for my book, "Occupied Voices: Stories of Everyday Life from the Second Intifada." This week - after months of forced displacement, starvation, and living under bombardment - he returned to his destroyed home. He sent this photo.

The mayhem in Minneapolis was not only predictable, but the point. They’re “doing very dangerous things,” former ICE official Scott Shuchart told @motherjones.com. Violent interactions with the public aren’t surprising, he added. “That’s sort of by design.”

In Gaza, one way in which the Israeli military used AI was to give a score to almost every person in Gaza who has a phone number, determining how likely it was that person was a member of Hamas or Islamic Jihad.
