Ex-prof, but still in with a shout on language, interaction etcetera

Lovely photo, Barbara! Best wishes of the season to you.

Excellent article by @profsalwiggins.bsky.social and @bogdanahuma.bsky.social on the interactional and discursive accomplishment of resisting requests (and more) to eat.

And it's OpenAccess too.

Professional societies keep beclowning themselves buying into a lie about what an LLM "summary" is. They are inherently counterfeit: not an epistemic product of the ideas in the source, but summary-shaped text linguistically based on *other* works (in the training corpus) that use related language.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

Had a great time at @lborouniversity.bsky.social for #CAday2025 on Monday 🙇🏻‍♀️ Fantastic conversations about conversation, very interesting insights from my colleagues, and rather useful feedback for my own research. The #CAkeoff was a great addition! 🍰

Comprehensive overview by Deborah Chinn of CA studies of interactions involving people with intellectual disabilities.

Terific synthesis- but shows it’s hard to find direct path to policy, & research is slowing

But need remains

#LboroCADAY2025 - I’ve finally worked out why speakers are putting up QR codes on slides - totally foxed me.

Turns out it gives a link to their transcripts … By some tech magic …

Yes I know I should keep up

We’ve had an excellent virtual entry to the #CAday2025 from colleagues at Tampere University (apologies for the blurry photo - really not doing the magnificent filmmaking justice!)

Officially they permit, but in fact?

My postie correctly predicted Arsenal 3 Nott'm Forest (his team) 0, and is sure that Arsenal will win the title.

I was going to give him a big tip anyway ...

That's terrific, Marina – well done!

Nice! But either would do for Strictly.

CA Day at Loughborough - 15th December - apparently a couple of tickets have become available.

Get there if you can for great presentations, great chat and of course the chance to compete in the CAke-off #CAkeOff2025

Maybe group I as the group of death, or death-adjacent: France, Senegal, Norway and (? Iraq).

But certainly the sheer number of games will dilute interest, in some groups to homeopathic levels.

Elephantiasis of spectacle, in direct negative correlation with interest, entertainment and informativeness.

Fun it isn't.
