Big win outta Manchester at #IPBES12 - the plenary @ipbes.net approved the #BizBiodiversity Assessment Report.
Bottom line? Every business has got work to do for nature, and the tools are in the report. Photo IISD_enb

Big thanks to the Instituto Humboldt of Colombia and the Colombian IPBES focal point for their support and nomination.

An energising week at #IPBES12. From this year, I’ll be taking on a new role as a member of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel ( #MEP ) of @ipbes.net. Having been involved since 2019 ( #IAS #GA2, #TF-SCM, and GA2), it’s a privilege to continue contributing to the platform.
🌍 The IPBES #BizBiodiversity Report launches on 9 February 2026

The Report explores methods to measure & act on dependencies & impacts of businesses on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people.

#IPBES12 delegates spent all day working on the session’s key deliverable: the Business and Biodiversity Assessment

It took until the late afternoon to complete a read-through of the Background Messages

Talks on tables and figures ran into the night

One of the most exciting aspects of @ipbes.net plenaries is the stunning artwork created for each meeting. This year is no exception, as the artwork for #IPBES12, where the #BizBiodiversity assessment is being discussed, is astonishing. Check out a snapshot of the incredible art below! 🔽
And we're off!! The working group I at #IPBES12 starts the deliberation of the #BizBiodiversity assessment. "A timely piece, bringing knowledge from many directions together " says co-chair Matt Jones, symbolically sitting under a main clock in an old station where tracks came together.

At the #IPBES12 opening plenary, it’s inspiring to see the relentless momentum of @ipbes.net’s work! This year, the launch of the #BizBiodiversity report, followed by the anticipated #Monitoring report in 2027, the innovative #SpatialPlanning report in 2028, and the impactful #GA2 report in 2029.
This morning at #IPBES12 🌍🧪

Delegates and observers meet in the main hall of Manchester Central for the opening ceremony of #IPBES12.

Once a train station connecting Manchester to the rest of the world, today it opens the session that will culminate in the #BizBiodiversity report launch.
#IPBES12 is underway with opening statements. Colombia for GRULAC begins with a tribute to a ‘founding member’ who has left—the US—and hopes they will be back soon. Got a little choked up at that - ❤️ - I too hope the US will be back soon.

Inspiring opening statements at #IPBES12 as I hear them is clear the relevance of @ipbes.net and its #Experts' work and the #BizBiodiversity assessment, as well as the need for coordinated action across regions and groups to achieve the important goals of the #Paris and #GBF agreements #ForNature

Inspiring opening remarks at #IPBES12 by the #UKgov, #UNEP, and #CBD highlighted the incredible work of @ipbes.net in driving business and productive activities to ensure humanity's well-being. The time to act is now! #ForNature #NaturePositive

This week, I’m thrilled to be attending #IPBES12 in #Manchester! It promises to be a pivotal event with exciting discussions on the #Business and #Biodiversity report.
🌍 Something unique is coming…

❄️ Last week #TIBS2026 took place in Aarhus & I was very happy to be part of the local organising committee: working on ECR events with @mattkerr.bsky.social, designing the logo & signs with the logistic team!
I also presented a poster on PA effectiveness & had great discussions, thanks everyone😊
TIBS 2026 conference was a great opportunity to keep disseminating the @peeer.bsky.social initiative and to present the field's New, Diamond 💎 Open Access journal @biogeographyjfab.bsky.social

Just presented at #TIBS2026! On the first day of the conference, I gave a talk on #camtrapReport, an R package I developed to automate camera-trap data reporting for wildlife monitoring, turning raw detections into standardized ecological insights and outputs.
