im so so sorry for the yap. i think there's merits to both sides but im kind of a fan of the truck driver thing currently
as of now i fw the truck driver thing bc i think it adds a layer to how far shidou can go with how he prioritizes his family above all else, the extremes he is capable of, and how he uses his position of power (so like you said, selfishness). so it's not that divorced from what his case was themed around, though it can feel a bit surprising as a twist definitely. i feel like without it his case is just more cut and dry even with the ethical question his job has, because at the end of the day, he's not 100% responsible for what his job has told him to do lol. sure he did that shit, and can feel guilty and remorseful over the morality of it after everything, but if not him then someone else probably does it. i like the truck driver twist because it has assigned him a clear thing he was definitely extremely responsible for and did not have to do. he breaks his oath as a medical professional etc etc. i'm honestly more shocked that there's a lot of support for shidou killing that guy lmfao so it might not be that huge an issue for most people? additionally, my personal opinion is that i think shidou's case is more interesting because it feels like he is obfuscating this death with the overwhelming regret and remorse he feels towards his job. his attitude is kind of what's been earning him a lot of sympathy and innocent points from fans (besides just his utility as a doctor), so to see this subverted in a way by introducing this other element that he seems to neglect to mention outright or portray at all in his mvs is kind of fun to me. idk maybe im nothingburger-ing lmfao and he does address the driver in some capacity that i missed (like i geuss the concept of triage as a whole could be it, since him having to treat the driver before his family implies a greater level of urgency? therefore triage tag?). but it's kind of this dichotomy where shidou's capable of so much empathy and care but he also is prone to exhibiting coldness and apathy when things get confusing and he can't follow objective, utilitarian logic or socially accepted philosophy. idk i just like the truck driver thing because it helps solidify shidou as more grey than if we didn't have it. was he vengeful towards the guy? did he not care at all and just wanted to get to his family quicker? neither one is great reasoning. otherwise he's just some guy who felt sooo bad about his job after he lost everything good in his life. and that's not as fun to me

I actually have a canon where Ninimel (HoF) becomes the Inquisitor. The Inquisition fares well enough but is far less diplomatic. Ninimel makes much more liberal use of force -- especially where militant humans are involved -- but also makes a point of using his position of relative power to create a space for his kin (Dalish and city elves alike) to escape to and live freely. Odilio would probably end up doing the same things as Kyne, simply with experience and a lot more sarcasm.

I think that's the problem when trying to stick too close with the creature's story. The whole middle part with the family is beautiful, but boy does that monster yap a lot. I also didn't like the ending. But as a whole I LOVED the art direction and about 2/3rds of the rest of the film.
