The "new coalition" that shifted to Trump in 2024 -- Asian/Hispanic, younger (especially young men), less engaged -- appears to be transient, unlike Trump's gains among WWC men in 2016.
NYC isn't the country...

But similar patterns in NJ/VA: Sherrill/Spanberger voters who didn't back Harris are younger, more diverse, less ideological, more focused on pocketbook issues than on Trump

Consistent w/ Trump rating drops among young people, POC, less politically engaged

The voters Mamdani added to the Democratic coalition in New York, a CBS News analysis
Zohran Mamdani's mayoral campaign turned out lots of voters who didn't back Kamala Harris last year — they are ethnically diverse, younger and less affluent.

Charitably, as a platner hater, I'd say there's some pragmatic chauvinism behind elevating a "white working class" socialist that whites elsewhere can relate to and move into socialism, but the WWC mythos defeats the pragmatism so platner is exactly what u get from the whole thing.

I noticed Mikie and local Democrats winning Manville, a WWC town that went R more than a decade ago. I'm curious whether Mikie won Winfield too. and of course the Latino landslides across the state

It's Bernie who trusts the MAGA folks. Always has. He cuddled w Trump 2017 sure he could talk him into stuff for the WWC including single payer. Nope. Cuddled again this time. He believes he can "talk to" MAGA. Yeah - prove it with a past example, Bern.

to yap on further, even if we don’t see it in full effect until next summer - this transfer window is going to be a dealbreaker for talks of potential outgoings, players are going to start having wwc on their mind esp if not getting the level of mins they wish for (or making the NT)
considering we do limited transactions in this window & now possibly shopping for a gk/cdm/cb - at least we have a very talented prospect of rb secured for a head start

Basically. It's all about those precious "misunderstood" WWC voters...who just also happen to be virulent racists, transphobes, homophobes, xenophobes, and misogynists.

That's when I got to see Homare Sawa play in person. I always thought the Beat's direct style of play didn't really showcase her talents, but I do think this is where she became a more physical player, which made her a more total player & was a factor in her MVP performance for Japan in the 2011 WWC

also, this is just me, but i don't trust the judgment of people who went gaga over platner to begin with. even before the tattoo came out, it was clear he was going to be a disaster and everyone was too blind by "WWC who agrees with me 😍" to realize he was just a nepo baby.

Hopefully Katie Reid will be back to full fitness for the u-20 WWC next year.

As a former Atlanta Beat fan--this is exciting news! There was strong support for the Beat when they were part of WUSA, the first pro women's soccer league in the US, & it was odd Atlanta didn't have a NWSL team. I mention the Beat in this piece on the 2023 WWC.

ICYMI, North Korea retained the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title. Also won two U-20 WWC titles in the past decade. It's a heartwarming tale.

On Saturday DPR Korea won the #U17WWC vs the Netherlands and defended their title.

In 2024 they had won the U20 and the U17 WWC already.

Since the Nadeshiko super gen grew up they have been invincible. The last time an underage team beat a DPR Korea team was Japan 2023 at the Asian Games.

More of this in fall, please. #SunsetLake #WWC

Well, looks like Korea DPR is going to win their second straight U17 WWC in ridiculously dominant fashion.

2-0
2-1
5-0
6-1
5-1
2-0

And already 2-0 vs Netherlands in the final.

This. I already have one creative passion (writing) that I've made very serious and attempted to do professionally and sometimes that's soul crushing. And it's so refreshing to have a creative outlet where I'm not trying to grind. I personally, would prefer that WWC stay amateur!

That gives me hope… that this coalition can make a dent in 2026, forget WP any Democrat who tells me they are chasing WWC votes will be blocked and won’t get a dime… looking at Sherrod Brown 👀

A callup? 70%. A place on the WWC squad? 10-20% probably, depending on who’s injured

I have an unfair question that touches on the #Spirit and #USWNT. I think Hal Hershfelt would be a great fit on the #USWNT midfield (a taller, meaner Coffey). What are the odds she gets a callup?

Saw a thread on table displays the other day, & while I did reply to that directly, I thought it would be fun to do a thread on it, too. Learn from my mistakes!

not as far as I know, different part of the state too (affluent North Jersey train station towns for this Sweeney, vs. Philly WWC suburbs/exurbs for the other one)
