Another favourite wartime fact is that Peter Butterworth of Carry On fame - was a POW at Stalag Luft iii and was involved in the Wooden Horse escape.

When he later tried to audition for a role in the film he was turned down for not looking heroic enough.

✨HAPPY NEW YEAR✨
May 2026 be nice to you with lots of happiness, creativity, and good health! ♥
I wasn't planning on drawing something but I saw many beautiful art here so I felt motivated! Have a baby Jay (maybe 3 yo?) on a rocking horse. Yeah I wasn't motivated enough to draw a real horse! 🤣

Canadian George Woolf was one of the greatest jockeys of his era.
Called Iceman for his calm demeanor in races, he won 97 major stakes before his life was tragically cut short.
His 1938 victory with Seabiscuit over War Admiral remains legendary.
This is his story.

Very sunny but coooooold day with an Arctic blast 🥶🥶🥶 Not many birds about (don’t blame them) but these horses posed for a few pics :))

It seems hard to understand why a horse from such a highly pedigreed background with a celebrated career ended up like this, but sadly it happens more than you might realize. Despite his awful condition, Tiz is actually one of the very lucky ones compared to how many of his fellow racers end up.

Greetings from Rochefort,

Thank you for this lovely « souvenir » of wooden sleigh. Childhood days in the French Alps where there were such horse sleighs. Long time no see!

This morning it was naturally a frosty but sunny weather by the cable bridge.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday

Sometimes mother nature just decides to hit the "nut machine go brrrrr" button and you're helpless to her whims.

A little something for @crown-point.bsky.social with my OC Suzanne (who I'm finally starting to get to look like an actual horse now, lmao).

I would not have included this episode in a toddler Trojan Horse book 😳 I can't lie to my son!

It only has four pages: Paris sailing off with Helen, Iphigeneia, Achilles knocking Hector over and the wooden horse.

Fluffy was so terrified at first she was almost paralyzed with fear. When she did move it was only to desperately scramble away from us, so we gave her a lot of quiet time and space to decompress.

These bits date to around 800-900 BCE. There's wear on the teeth of old horse skeletons that suggests that bone or wooden bits were in use much earlier.

Next up: here are May-August, which included my favourite - a trip to #Iceland ofc! And there's a slight cheat non-landscape pic as it was in a crypt (no prizes for guessing which one! 😂)

When I’m giving a talk about portrait statues and want to demonstrate the scale from sublime to… not, I usually show Bernini’s Louis XIV bust and then either Slovenia’s Melania Trump (left) or Nashville’s Nathan Bedford Forrest (right). Both now gone. But Aylesbury’s Bowie rat king is still with us!

For her charitable work, she was called Mrs. Canada.
During the Second World War, she opened her home to evacuated British children who called her Auntie Flora. After the war, her home was used as a convalescent home for the Royal Canadian Navy.
