Some of these signs stayed up into the 1960s.

The worst part about whats going on for me right now? I've lived in alabama all of my life and when I tell you this state is so beautiful I am not lying in the least. from muscle shoals to huntsville to the beaches of fairhope and orange beach. But its ruined by our state government and sundowntowns

Look at all those sundown towns in Illinois, Indiana, New England, and SoCal.
James Loewen published a similar map in his book on #sundowntowns. I recall historians saying non-southern segregation increased during the "nadir of race relations" and especially the "great migration" periods.

If you want more history of sundown towns, look on YouTube for "James Loewen" speaking about them. There certainly were plenty if #sundowntowns in the midwest and north, in general. Mostly because the south already had segregation in place.
