taking a moment from writing up my latest hydrologic report to descend the rabbit hole of "are steelhead salmon or trout" and "does that mean rainbow trout are salmon too since they basically are landlocked steelhead" and "oh wait maybe all of the Onychrynchus are really trout" and oh man

Our fishermen in Southwest Washington have spoken loud and clear—sea lions in the Columbia River are decimating our salmon and steelhead runs.

I saw someone with a decal on their car window that read "there's no head like a steelHEAD" with a vector of fish bones and my dirty sewer goblin mind was like, "eheheheehe!!"

Little side note inspired by the Sparrow + Wolf menu: I learned the disappointing way, some years ago, that ‘steelhead trout’ is not what I think of as trout. Nothing like the freshwater variety, in fact. Very similar to salmon. Which might make it a pro or a con for you.

Michelin is coming back to Vegas after almost 20 years. Which is great! Wing Lei at Wynn—amazing Peking duck—still touts the star it earned before Michelin left haha.

But I’m CRACKING UP at the characterization of Sparrow + Wolf as reasonably priced. As if […]

dude it's crazy how dead this river is after the salmon run ends in november. you might catch a steelhead during the winter but all the other fish just disappear until may. I don't get it. this is a freestone river, there should be fish all over the place year round

Steelhead trip of a lifetime. Hooked like 50 & landed 15-20…I fucking lost count. Nirvana…

Steelhead trout hit with a dose of Blue Ridge Hot Honey then seared in a cast iron pan. Served with a side quinoa and brown rice blend, both topped with a healthy drizzle of Mike's Hot Honey.

carp are actually really challenging to catch on hook & line. They're fun, but i'm not kidding when i say steelhead are easier.

Okay, so I don't have the more powerful Splatanna in this rotation... doesn't mean I can't bring down a Steelhead with it! Heck, call one of your buddies over and I'll slice and dice both of you in just two swings!

I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of red meat I consume lately, but omg the prime rib at Salty’s is so good I’m still thinking about it from yesterday. 🤤 It’s expensive, but I’ll need to find an excuse to go back. And the steelhead fish with Thai chili pineapple salsa? Also delicious.

Supper!🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Homemade sweet and sour sauce with jasmine rice, carrots and Atlantic Canadian steelhead trout. I really like trout, better than salmon.

The CRITFC was formed to facilitate the restoration of salmon and steelhead runs in the Snake River system, an issue of primary importance in the latter years of the twentieth century. The Nez Percé, the Yakima, Warm Springs, and Umatilla tribes are CRITFC members.

get very well established or diversify. The base of the river food web here isn't bugs; it's the eggs, young, & flesh of the migratory salmon species who die after spawning. Steelhead, browns, & cutthroat trout can all survive spawning, but the other 5 salmon species do not

Husband made omelettes using the entire pack of smoked steelhead trout. 😂

fingers crossed for you! we've been lucky with good river temperatures during critical salmonid migration periods here for the last 2 or 3 years or so, but i definitely remember bad summers with too many die offs. It's beyond sad to snorkel a river & see dead salmon & steelhead all over the bottom

I likely won’t guide past June here in northern Idaho, if at all. Will likely guide the salmonfly hatch on the Deschutes in Oregon and steelhead in the fall. But who knows?

This little sea-run wasn’t quite as bright as some others, but shone nonetheless.

Got Fat Nancy cam on: ice melting & huge chunks of shelf ice about to break off like icebergs w/ highs in upper 30’s…heading up Tue/Wed for steelhead city & chrome Central. This is when big hens & the big bucks start to swin up, right after ice out…I’m talking 15-20 pound bright chrome torpedoes.
