The three-storey-tall pink flamgingo sculpture outside the old Cafe Hon in Baltimore got a Santa cap at Christmas. The site is now a critically acclaimed gastro-pub rebranded as The Duchess that self-describes as a place that "blends English tavern charm with bold Chamorro flavors". The Baltimore Banner reports that the Duchess's shrimp and corn patties were on a New York Times end-of-year best something-or-other list that food sections produce so their writers can recycle old material and take time off during the holidays

AUSTIN, TEXAS - You know what they say: “If you build it, they will come.” The popular quote from “Field of Dreams” also applies to Nordic trolls at beloved community parks, which the people of Austin, Texas, found out on Friday afternoon. The much-anticipated troll crafted by recycle artist Thomas Dambo made its grand debut in final form at Pease Park, located at 1100 Kingsbury St. in Austin, on Friday. To honor Dambo’s first troll in Texas, which serves as the 129th troll Dambo has made around the world, there was a two-hour celebration for the park’s newest addition. Dambo even enlisted the help of two attendees to unveil the official name of the troll sculpture: Malin’s Fountain. At the start of the celebration, the Danish artist divulged the meaning behind his newest gentle giant before reciting a poem that’s also etched on a stone near the troll. According to Dambo, Malin’s Fountain was inspired by water and even has a massive birdbath fountain, which he hopes people who pass by will put water in for birds and other wildlife to drink out of. The troll’s “hair” is made from cedar roots, while most of its body is made from recycled material from an old water tower at J.J. Pickle Research Campus. Dambo revealed that roughly 200 volunteers helped build the sculpture in the Capital City over the last three weeks.
