after the storm, the air still shakes in me
my hands remember lightning as a need
i learned to count the quiet between texts
to read the hum where wanting learns to wait

i loved like weather trained to never rest
each charge a plea, each spark a risk to take
i mistook burning fast for being held
and paid in ash for every promise made

i feared the dark would swallow me alone
or worse, i’d live unknowing who i was
so i kept standing in the electric
afraid that calm would mean i’d disappear

then something warm met static without fear
no grasping hands, no prophecy of storms
just presence steady as a grounded wire
that let the current soften as it stayed

now love feels like the sky just after rain
still bright with charge, but finally safe to breathe

crumbly,
messy—

we were a coffee cake:
delicate,
delightful in the hands and mouth,
disintegration our fate.

In the end,
we dissolved
into nothing
but crumbs of memory:
clinging to our fingers,
sticky with grief.
