No. I would not feel guilty for that kid. She’d chosen to come to the Nevers with Pan, so that was on her. Around us, the make-up of the forest changed, the colours coming alive with all kinds of tropical flowers—canna and angel’s trumpets and plumeria, all the different blooms Beanie’d told me the names of—and I caught the beastie whispering something. ‘La Forêt Vibrante’. It was the local’s name for this section of the island, named at some point before my time as a Petit with the Child Taker. How would she know that detail without being a part of the group, spending time around Neverland? At the same time, she clearly couldn’t fly, otherwise why would we be in this mess? Thinking on the Lost Ones’ relationship to the concept of truth brought up another issue, namely the creature trailing behind me and letting out what she must’ve thought were restrained sighs. She’d said she didn’t know my name. A flat out ‘no’. How the fuck did that work? That she didn’t know the name I’d been born with? Had to be that because the alternative was...she had no idea I was Captain Hook. And that brought me right back to the question...who the fuck was she? As we continued through the forest, me keeping up my brutal pace, the Lost One gave her third or fourth sigh in the span of a few minutes. “What’s on your mind, beastie?” I asked, eyes still ahead of me, looking around for movement, acutely aware of the dangers potentially lurking around us. “Must you insist on calling me that?” she grumbled in response.

Leaving the shower was worse than being inside it. It meant passing the mirror. It meant seeing herself naked. Seeing something that made her feel dirtier and uglier than the apartment or neighborhood. Silver skin dulled to a dirty gray due to a layer of grime. Soggy tangled curls of bright pink hair. Why pink? Why curls? Why not straight and golden? Yellow eyes burning with a fire that terrified her. It should bring her peace but she knew what that fire was capable of. What she could do if she ever made a mistake. Her ugly destructive body.

Now she had a fierce, long mane of white hair sheared into a mohawk, still sporting the half-royal purple color that Vola helped her paint in. She was strong and revitalized. Given new purpose and knowledge to rebuild her life as a healer. No longer the awkward wannabe punk scared that the Silks were about to abandon her. Vola heard what people called her when they thought Nat wasn’t listening. The Angel of the Silks. Still rail-thin though. Thinner than last month. With as much as she ate, that shouldn’t be the case. Her lavender skin was ashened and not as vibrant as it used to be. It was as if something was draining her vitality. Burning her out in a whole new way. Another question for later. Vola chided herself.

Today's word is *CHANGE*

Okay, so I've been leaning harder into Winnie's neurodivergent qualities, so this passage about her tolerating Deborah touching her even though it stressed her out rings true for me. I wanted to share.
When Deborah put her arm around my shoulder, I reflexively tensed. Our group of women has always been very touchy-feely with each other. Not in an especially sexual way, but certainly familiar. It’s something I’ve just come to live with, even though my preference is that any touching is left to other friends, not me. We hug when we meet up, kiss cheeks, hold hands, and hang off each other like drunk high schoolers. I’m used to it, but it doesn’t change that my back crawls with gooseflesh when Deborah puts her arm around my shoulder and leans her head against mine. I can smell her hair. Pomegranate. It fills my nose, and suddenly I’m not nearly as worried about the arm around my shoulder. She leans her head against mine, and I close my eyes, smelling the fruity cloud that floats around her head.

Best to stay on our feet, no?" "Always am."  A glance down confirmed for Kallista that, of course, Iona's boots had mysteriously gone missing again. "I see you're ahead of me there." "If we're expecting a fight, I want to be at my readiest. And you still haven't bested me in single combat all these years, so ..." Iona backed away, shooting Kallista a salute. "... the boots stay off, Captain." That statement might have been coupled with a smirk at any other time. But not today. Practically bouncing on her feet, Iona loped down to the middle deck and stood ready for deployment.
