🎭 These Roman mummy masks come from ancient Egypt. They date from the 1st-2nd century CE, and they are painted and made from plaster. (Pushkin Museum, Moscow).

I wish there was something like a Companion book to Religion In Roman Egypt that wasn’t about the conversion period but how Religion was practiced from Persian period to Late #Antiquity.

So somebody who’s a great academic in Roman history and does TV liked this on Threads and now I’m anxious I may not have written it well.

It’s all thanks to a scholar with a special interest in recording donkey sales in Roman Egypt.

Inky paw print on a sherd from Thebes, Egypt, recording Maieuris paid their taxes at around 94 CE. I've flipped the image so the paw print is facing up & the text is inverted. My guess is this was a cat, it's a cat kinda thing to do no? But I'm not an expert. 6.5x6.4cm
