Faster Than Ever: A New Lightweight Private Set Intersection and Its Variants (Guowei Ling, Peng Tang, Jinyong Shan, Liyao Xiang, Weidong Qiu) ia.cr/2026/024
Abstract. In this work, we present a new lightweight two-party Private Set Intersection (PSI) paradigm in both the semi-honest and malicious models. It requires only a small number of base Oblivious Transfers (OTs), along with a single Oblivious Key-Value Store (OKVS) encoding and a number of decodings equal to the sender input size. All computations (except for the base OTs) can be implemented using efficient hash and bitwise operations. Furthermore, we extend the proposed PSI protocol to circuit PSI and, subsequently, to several PSI variants, including PSI-cardinality, PSI-sum, and Private Join and Compute (PJC). All proposed protocols are evaluated under both LAN and WAN settings, with performance compared against existing works. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed PSI achieves about 1.5× faster runtime than the most efficient Vector Oblivious Linear Evaluation (VOLE)-based PSI, while maintaining consistently lower communication overhead under identical settings. For circuit PSI, it is up to 3.6× faster and reduces communication by a factor of 1.5 compared to VOLE-based circuit PSI constructions. In the cases of PSI-cardinality and PSI-sum, they achieve speedups of up to 12.2× and 10×, respectively, while incurring only moderate communication overhead. For PJC, the proposed protocol outperforms prior work by 731× in runtime and achieves a 3.2× reduction in communication, maintaining high efficiency even under a low-bandwidth condition. The performance under the unbalanced setting is also evaluated, showing that our PSI achieves at most two orders of magnitude improvement in the LAN setting compared with existing unbalanced PSI protocols, and gradually gains superiority under the WAN setting as the receiver set size increases. Zico Kolter1 Andrew Gordon Wilson2 1Carnegie Mellon University 2New York University Abstract Can we learn more from data than existed in the generating process itself? Can new and useful information be constructed from merely applying deterministic transformations to existing data? Can the learnable content in data be evaluated without considering a downstream task? On these questions, Shannon information and Kolmogorov complexity come up nearly empty-handed, in part because they assume observers with unlimited computational capacity and fail to target the useful information content. In this work, we identify and exemplify three seeming paradoxes in information theory: (1) information cannot be increased by deterministic transformations; (2) information is independent of the order of data; (3) likelihood modeling is merely distribution matching. To shed light on the tension between these results and modern practice, and to quantify the value of data, we introduce epiplexity, a formalization of information capturing what computationally bounded observers can learn from data. Epiplexity captures the structural content in data while excluding time-bounded entropy, the random unpredictable content exemplified by pseudorandom number generators and chaotic dynamical systems. With these concepts, we demonstrate how information can be created with computation, how it depends on the ordering of the data, and how likelihood modeling can produce more complex programs than present in the data generating process itself. We also present practical procedures to estimate epiplexity which we show capture differences across data sources, track with downstream performance, and highlight dataset interventions that improve out-of-distribution generalization. In the end LBH doesn't bother with collecting his payment. Nor does he bother with returning SJ to the Qiu clan.
In fact by the end of it there is no Qiu clan and no QJL. Not after LBH took care of them for what they did.

Only that, much to LBH's shock, SJ vehemently refuses. In fact he fights much more against being send back, than he had originally fought when he first got kidnapped. Which of course makes no sense to LBH.
