Researchers at the FXE instrument at @europeanxfel have now developed a new #spectrometer to obtain meaningful results even at energies well above 15 keV. It works in the so-called Laue geometry. The higher the X-ray energy, the more efficiently the Laue analyser works.

![A unique characteristic of European XFEL is the ability to provide X-ray light with very high energy. However, as the energy of the X-rays increases, the interaction with the crystals becomes smaller, making the measurements challenging. In this high photon energy regime, a large proportion of the X-ray light simply passes through the crystal unused, which is why the performance of X-ray spectrometers using these analysers, known as Johann or Von Hamos spectrometers, decreases rapidly with increasing X-ray energy. They usually only work well up to a photon energy of around 15 kiloelectronvolts (keV).

Checked into the U of Wisconsin-Madison two weeks after the Weathermen blew up the Army Math Reasearch Center in the Pysics Bldg in central campus. There wasn't an intact window in about a 1 mile radius.

#books 5785 Balanced Science 1 / Jones, Jones & Marchington (Cambridge 1990) GCSE textbook - tremendously useful basic scientific explainer beating the hell out of the dreaded "Abbot" our pysics textbook that was vast and blue and incomprehensible - can never remember making sense of a word of it

Ended up uninstalling pysics mod cuz it's incompatible with my favorite shader.
2025, still enjoying modded Minecraft. Game costed my like 12 to 20 dollars back in the day.

My daughter B.S. in Pysics and Master of Science. My son has been in HVAC and plumbing since he was 14. Worked with his dad, helping. I wished he lived closer! I've had to call 3 different companies only for him to visit and fix it in minutes.
