**Abstract:** This paper outlines a novel approach to enhancing the performance of Cadmium Selenide/Zinc Sulfide (CdSe/ZnS) core-shell quantum dots (QDs) for bioimaging applications through optimized surface passivation using tailored self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). We detail a rigorous methodology for selecting and characterizing SAMs – specifically, thiols functionalized with polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivatives and amine groups – to minimize surface defects, reduce non-radiative recombination pathways, and improve QD stability in physiological environments.

The structural and photoluminescent properties of 1′,3′,6′,8′-tetra­methyl­spiro­[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] were explored, emphasizing the importance of methyl groups in enhancing fluorescence. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed a unique 90° crossover between the fluorene and xanthene segments.
