Reporter @zachschermele.bsky.social notes the CR would restore OSEP (special ed office) positions at US Dept of Ed.

But note: given Trump Admin’s political goal is eliminating ED and sending OSEP duties to (likely) HHS, question will be on follow-through.

You know how hard it is to get your disabled kid a Medicaid waiver? Then get Medicaid to approve services? You know how hard it is to fight for FAPE? OSEP is set to review IDEA applications in Jan, but you have not protected them from layoffs after Dec. I hope you feel shame.

And OSEP is supposed to start reviewing IDEA grants in January.

I'm working on my next book (self-imposed deadline on a chapter) and writing about OSEP this coming week, but will hold this thought for a bit. But if I were at IU, or UT-Austin, or OSU, or wherever, I might poke around with some prose and see where it goes.

Federal oversight is under threat.

Mass layoffs have gutted OSEP, RSA, and key programs in HUD and HHS, agencies that protect education, housing, and healthcare for people with disabilities.

This isn’t reform. It’s dismantling.
Call Congress. Defend equality.

Every time Thune makes a bad-faith offer, the Dems should add another demand. First on the list, make OSEP whole. If Republicans want Trump to break the record for longest shutdown (previously set by Trump), so be it.

ACTION ALERT: Department of Education has nearly wiped out OSERS—offices essential to ensuring students with disabilities receive the services they’re guaranteed under IDEA. Congress must act NOW. Tell lawmakers: Restore OSEP. Protect IDEA. #4SpecialEducation
