we really shouldnt be okay with fortnite, thats already the most popular competitive pvp game right now, also trying to be a guitar hero game, a racer, a sandbox, a roblox competitor, a ninjago game, a star wars game etc with access to every franchise under the sun. it feels extremely monopolistic
feels kind of dystopian to me that people are seeing and understanding this but cheering it on

🤔 What administration facilitated this globalized monopolistic consolidation and allowed it to foment?
I’ll bet it started in the mid to late 90s. 🙄

It’s the cowardice in the face of a monopolistic and over-bearing Treasury that’s the problem here. They refuse to spend money and that fucking man in No 10 just doesn’t want to challenge them.

And THEY'RE NOT REALLY SUBSIDIES it's just mildly counterbalancing the unregulated monopolistic leverage that the rich have.

Some people think decentralization has great potential as an antidote to a lot of the problems we have seen with the rise of big tech. Big technology companies are so vast, powerful, and even monopolistic, that they can often afford not to care about how their product affects their users.

I stopped my Paramount subscription when CBS paid off Trump & cancelled Colbert, cancelled Disney+ subscription when Jimmy Kimmel was "suspended", stopped all META products & ended my Amazon Prime subscription when Zuck & Bezos bent the knee, & will block TikTok with Elison's monopolistic take over!
The trailer for Melania’s movie is out.

Some portion of price increases in the post pandemic surge were an increase in corporate profits beyond the underlying inflation rate. It was the largest jump in several decades. Why that hasn’t reversed is a question. Some is potentially monopolistic result.

Anyone who still supports the GOP Fascist Pedophile White Supremacist Misogynist Monopolistic War Monger Broligarchs is either depraved, insipid, or both.

Metaphorically speaking, these are people dousing their own flesh with gasoline, striking a match, and wondering why their genitalia is on fire.

Reminds me of gaming news a few weeks ago about how companies are fed up with Steam being a monopoly, but in that case The Gamers all screamed & shouted "Steam's not a monopoly!" Uh, yes, they are, in fact, and yes, they even use monopolistic practices, even if you really like Steam.

The owners of mineral rights absolutely will not stop until every last drop of oil is under their monopolistic control, sold to burn, and they will not stop until someone stops them

This is interesting but my original question remains - do we need nostalgia for the old monopolistic studio system just because Netflix is bad?
December 17, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Aaron, that's exactly what all of us must do—except me. I'm keeping my Netflix, HBO, ESPN, Prime... so the rest of you must stop watching those monopolistic networks that rip us off our hard-earned money and feed us the bullshit on TV.

Perhaps it is the complacent attitude of customers like us that has encouraged Coupang in its monopolistic abuses and legal evasions.

Aren't they going to get sued again for monopolistic behavior? This happened when they pushed MS Edge to get rid of Netscape.

All — because of their monopoly or oligopoly status — cost the average American family an average of over $5000 a year that is not paid by the citizens of any other developed country in the world because the rest of the world won’t tolerate this kind of predatory, monopolistic behavior.

Hell, stretch it back a few years and it'd even cover *Google*.

People always recognized they were monopolistic and evil, but turned a blind eye because their core product was *just that good and useful to all humanity*.

Even Youtube got cut slack because they ran at an enormous financial loss.

I am pressing X to doubt that actually exists. I doubt google would *allow* it to exist, considering it's hatred of adblockers and general monopolistic business practices. The chances of that existing and continuing to exist are slim to none

Yeah, sure he isn't. LOL, besides it's more the fact that Ellison is the one involved that should terrify everyone. No one person should have monopolistic control of the media.

China warns platforms on monopolistic tactics such as ‘lowest-price’ requirement
China’s market regulator has warned that internet platforms demanding merchants offer the “lowest price across the internet” may face antitrust action, as Beijing steps up efforts to curb malpractice. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) explained some details of its draft – Antitrust Compliance Guidelines for Internet Platforms – at a press conference on Wednesday, according to Xinhua. The “lowest-price” requirement, where platforms bar merchants from selling cheaper elsewhere, is one of eight potential violations identified in the draft, according to Liu Jian, deputy director of antitrust enforcement at the administration.

Bus drivers have a less monopolistic employment market (in London for example there are multiple bus companies driving routes for TfL). and are less specialised (train drivers are specialised in specific units). Bus journeys are also much substituted.

It’s about monopolistic power and impacts.

Yeah and allowing the abuse of a patent system is a policy choice, monopolistic practices another policy choice. Done by people that are elected to office btw. It’s not the system buddy.
