I’m (finally) reading about Dynastinae morphological character and I stumbled upon Guillaume-Antoine Olivier, who described many species such as Megasoma gyas... in 1789 and in the following years.
I like to imagine the guy "Yeah France is on fire rn but I’m going to describe my insects tyvm"

I agree and that's cleaver. I did that too actually lol
and also for some highly-sought out species, I dont report them so people wont go mess with the habitat looking for them (for my case it was my Megasoma elephas catch

With larvae weighing over 250 grams and adults weighing only a quarter of its larval weight, Megasoma rex is the heaviest insect in the world.

It is split from Megasoma actaeon in 2018, based on small morphological differences and geographical isolation.

That's a really good blog post. There is always something to learn.

It certainly resembles that whopping big string of eggs from Bulimnea (or Lymnaea) megasoma featured in the post, right down to the green coloration. Might be worth uploading pic to iNaturalist.

The Houston Rodeo is already underway & the Houston Museum of Natural History (@hmns.bsky.social) posted these action shots on FB with their insects recreating rodeo scenes for the kickoff event: "Go Texan Day."

It put a smile on my face, y'all. 😄

Poster from the beetle shop Mushi Sha on the world’s largest beetles on a 1:1 scale 😳

As cool as it is, it’s really funny Goliathus is still crowned as the heaviest beetle based on the misinformed data of 100g. (The title probably belongs to Megasoma rex, shown at the bottom next to the weevil).
