Eizo did birdwatching (terrifying).
Lizard and bird, two taxa separated by 300 million years of evolution.
Eizo, rather big Varanus acanthurus, weighs 420g, while the average european greenfinch weighs 30g. Fortunately, he prevailed!

Thanks for the stream, it was absolutely awesome!! Excellent game, excellent people, met crow lovers, talked about Nanotyrannus (a bit, need to read more), now winding down with Silly the Cilnia humeralis.

I made my lizard have a prehistoric encounter with Yutyrannus.
Broke his flegm.

This is the most incredible thing I've ever seen for Paleoctober and encompasses exactly the message of the challenge.
A phylogenetic tree of all the entries of this year. This is so RAD!!

A month of #paleoctober2025 has ended, and what a month ! For 31 days we discovered so many incredible extinct organisms, all of them belonging to the tree of life started on our planet 4-ish billion years ago, so let's go for a little recap through the tree formed during this year's paleoctober !⬇️

Name: White-necked crow (Corvus leucognaphalus)
> Not a single white feathers
> Not a single neck pattern.
Additionally,
> Nice floofing up potential
> Lives in Caribbean islands
> Looks absolutely evil
> But sings like a parrot, soft and melodious
Don't trust names, it's just a bunch of ID letters

FYI I made a Youtube, Tiktok and Instagram channel for the lizards :)
The name is Eizo_and_frens, it will only have short and cute videos around Eizo the Varanus acanthurus, and sometimes educational content about monitor lizards.
Hope they bring a bit of peace in your life like for me 🌸🦎

Scorpion evolution is a fascinating topic, often reduced to giant extinct species, while it's a long and complicated history that they built along our own, so cheers to them ! <3
Thanks to @djigr.bsky.social for including this stingy baby in the #paleoctober2025, it was my favourite to draw !😊

This single thing, at a time when most scorpions had crab-like legs, is very unusual and more typical of post-silurian scorpions, hinting at the possibility scorpion's terrestrialization went quicker or earlier than expected (and I didn't mentionned there are fossilized lungs remains !)

BUT, because there's a but. The truly remarkable thing about Eramoscorpius is the tip of its legs, showing a clear dedicated segment providing a firm wider base of walking, just as seen in modern species. This tendancy is seen also in insects, and is often a key feature to walk on land for athropods

There is also no stomotheca yet, a preoral chamber formed by front limbs bases and shared by all current scorpions, implying Eramoscorpius didn't processed food the same way. This limb morphology (mostly the coxa & patella) also suggest this species didn't go as well on land as its modern relatives.

It has 2 huge lateral eyes just like other basal silurian scorpions and aquatic euchelicerates (eurypterids and horseshoe crab are prime examples), something current scorpions totaly lost since they now have 2 eyes on the top of their carapace and little eyes on the sides.
