Je fais de petites recherches sur les varans en ce moment pour mon projet de micro-videos quotidiennes sur mes furets à écailles (Youtube/Tiktok/Insta), je suis tombée dans un trou de lapin sur leur métabolisme.
Conclusion : les varans sont les mammifères des lézards.

For 31 days we discovered so many incredible extinct organisms, all of them belonging to the tree of life started on our planet 4-ish billion years ago, so let's go for a little recap through the tree formed during this year's paleoctober !⬇️

Il paraît qu'elle est beaucoup plus axée sur les insectes vivants, et il y aura une conférence de Scarabête, j'ai hâte :)

Je pensais profiter d'un moment paisible et sans histoire avec les corneilles après la fermeture du Jardin des Plantes, c'était sans compter sur le caractère ✨chaotique✨ de ces vandales (dont les installations pour les illuminations de l'hiver ont fait les frais)

Scorpion evolution is a fascinating topic, often reduced to giant extinct species, while it's a long and complicated history that they built along our own, so cheers to them ! <3

This single thing, at a time when most scorpions had crab-like legs, is very unusual and more typical of post-silurian scorpions, hinting at the possibility scorpion's terrestrialization went quicker or earlier than expected (and I didn't mentionned there are fossilized lungs remains !)

BUT, because there's a but. The truly remarkable thing about Eramoscorpius is the tip of its legs, showing a clear dedicated segment providing a firm wider base of walking, just as seen in modern species. This tendancy is seen also in insects, and is often a key feature to walk on land for athropods

There is also no stomotheca yet, a preoral chamber formed by front limbs bases and shared by all current scorpions, implying Eramoscorpius didn't processed food the same way. This limb morphology (mostly the coxa & patella) also suggest this species didn't go as well on land as its modern relatives.
